I thought it would be fun to make some toys. I had everything but a band saw so I picked up the bottom-of-the-line Delta Shopmaster to learn on. So far, a lot of fun and I made a rough prototype from some plans from a book I bought.

My son instantly claimed it as his own, so a good sign. Now I am at this stage of the Circus:

I need to sand these and the wheels and put them together. Still undecided on finish, leave them plain or a salad bowl finish or paint them. I may have to make a few trains and try stuff out.
Based on this idea I think I will create a dinosaur train next.
I really like the community here and just scrolling through the project pages gives me a bunch of ideas of what to do next.

Hi Alan,
This are cute projects. I have no doubt that they would be popular with younger children. The dinosaur train will probably be a more exciting project given their enthusiasm with dinosaurs.
Thanks for the post.
