Well, the state mandated testing is over, so now I have a little more time on my hands. I have been working on the table. As of right now the legs are sized as are the approns. Currently I’m trying to figure out how to incorporate a hidde...

Making friends with the shop teacher is a great move. Now introduce him to the rest of the jocks and the two of you can make side projects and he can teach you about all the different woods, and you can sell it for profit to buy more wood and more tools…
I think I’d spend every waking moment in the shop and make as much as I could. And then sell it during the summer. Little things, big things…cute things ugly things… oh wait, that’s what i do already. Better watch it, I’ll let you see my wood and then sell it to you for a bazillion dollars.
I’m a bad, bad man.

I hope in time, that with the free shop time(except for the clean up) you will develope your skills with us. You’ll find that many here do their great works of woodworking with simple hand tools and with reclaimed lumber. Welcome aboard!

i have to say this site is great, and I don’t mean just the projects. I was a member for maybe 5 minutes and I had people welccoming me. Thank you.
Obi I hope I can make and sell things during the summer so as to buy tools. My problem is demigraphics. I live in a town that has less than 1000 people (yes less than 1000) and the next nearest town is a hour away. Most people aren’t interested in custom furniture.

Now, my young friend, Green River is not the middle of nowhere. It’s somewhere near the bottom on no where. I lived in Roosevelt for quite a while and it is probably the north end of no where. And besides you have the best watermelons in the world. If I were you I would work the area around Gand Junction with what you produce. You will find a market over there. Not to mention you have the Interstate to set up a shop on. You’ll do fine. Good luck.Tom

Thos., I might have to agree with you on your geography Roosevelt is a little ways away. But the melons here are indeed good. In fact next week is Melon Days, Saturday all you can eat watermelon, catalope, and crenshaw melons.
As far as a market in Grand Junction, that is a possibility. My problem right now is the lack of a shop. At home I use an area that is about 12’ by 12’. I can barely move around there, and I don’t have a lot of good quality tools. I do have access to the school shop, but then so do the students, and they don’t always treat the tools right. Hopefully within the next few years I’ll get a shop set up, and can start doing a few more commissions.

You commented on the cradle that I made and you are correct that I used teh plan from WOOD magazine. I did not however provide a mattress because my coworker already had a mattress that fit in it nearly perfectly(a little snug). I have seen this box you have made somewhere along the way in my woodworking magazines, can you help to remind me which one? How difficult was it to make. I need to provide a simple yet elegant project for my Introduction to Woodworking classes and have not quite found the perfect item. I briefly considered doing his project but I would like your opinion first. Thanks.
