One of Your Favorite Projects - and Where to Buy the Plans. - 6 replies I thought we might try an little something different. Did you buy a plan online, make the project, and it came out great? Wanna share that plan with others? I made this neat little clock from some plans I got on the Shopnotes website. This is how it turned out: It was made of Cherry, and was a nice little weekend project. If you are... |

The Gratitude Factor. - 9 replies I, and I’m sure many others, would like to hear stories of gratitude, stemming from a wood project you did for some one – whether paid, or not. I get a sense of accomplishment and pride with pieces I’ve done that I really like; the frosting on the cake is when the recipient is wowed. I’d like to hear stories from you guys... |

Stripping? - 1 reply No, not that kind of stripping. Regarding furniture stripping. Has anyone ever used a glass bead blaster (like a sand blaster, but with miniature glass beads) for stripping wood? Years ago, when I was using one in a container booth to strip metal, I had a piece of metal from a dirty, oily engine laying on a pine 2×4. The pine was stained... |

So, how are you heating your home this winter? - 30 replies It’ll soon be fall here in the northern US, and of course, Canada. I’m understanding that fuel oil and gas, will be up this year, and quite a bit. I’m on gas, so I’m better off than the fuel oil guys, but still. My best friend has put in a wood stove last year, and man, his house is like 85 all winter – with the ... |

Why is it.....? - 23 replies Why is it, back in the early 1990s, I had a Geo Metro 3 cylinder, that got 60, yes 60 MPG highway, and yet we can’t get a non-hybrid car today that gets over 40 MPG? If GM would revive that model, they wouldn’t be able to make them fast enough! |

How do they make these signs? - 10 replies Anyone out there know how they make these very nice engraved wood signs? They are usually embellished with gold leaf. I’d like to know how they make those large engraved letters. I don’t think they are hand carved, but if done by a router, man, that’s one big router bit! Here’s some samples: |

Book or website on unusual projects? - 2 replies What I’m looking for are books or websites on woodworking projects that involve secret compartments (like the Presidential desk in the movie National Treasure, or the secret compartment found in this Pennsylvania Spice Box at FWW. Also, looking for plans or pages about toys or curiosities, like pachinko machines. |

What sells at a craft festival? Some ideas... - 12 replies Well guys, just got back from the Corn Hill Arts Festival here in Rochester, NY. Corn Hill is a one of those important stops on the craft show tour, from what I understand. I like it because they have a wide variety of stuff. Being the entrepeneur that one day hopes to sell at shows like this, I was on the lookout for the “hot thing”... |

Cows, The Constitution, and The Ten Commandments. - 4 replies Three things to think about: Cows - Is it just me, or does anyone else find it amazing that our government can track a single cow born in Canada almost three years ago, right to the stall where she sleeps in the state of Washington? And they track her calves to their stalls. But they are unable to locate 11 million illegal aliens wanderi... |

Working with copper - 7 replies I maybe using sheet copper in an upcoming project, in which I will hammer it. I can recall doing some copper hammering way back in shop class in the 70s, and we applied some sort of liquid, that would quickly blacken the copper. You would then use some fine steel wool to rub off all that black – except in the recessed areas – giving ... |

Mortiser - a one trick pony? - 6 replies I’m strongly considering getting a benchtop mortiser, specifically the Steel City 25200. I think I know the answer to this question, but are mortisers just one-trick ponies? Or, can they be used for something other than making square holes? Also, do you use yours very much? Was it worth buying? |

George Washington, where art thou? - 8 replies George Washington, where art thou? John Adams, where have you gone? I’m sure I’m not alone when I long for a President, or statesman, the caliber of George Washington or John Adams, to guide this country through it’s problems, and dealing with the world and it’s dangers. This is not a diatribe against the curren... |

Exploding in Sketchup - 4 replies I’ve been using SU for about 3 months now, and have become pretty handy with it. However, I cannot seem to “explode” my project. Users of SU will know what I mean. I tried a plugin, found here. Couldn’t get it to work – thru any combination of groups or components – not that the directions were that clea... |

Ideas needed for making a baby - 23 replies Uh….baby project, I should say. LOL My best friend is finally having his first child, and I’d like to make the happy couple and/or baby something, but I just don’t know what. Not a cradle, or those beds with the slide up railings….something else….but I’m coming up short on WHAT to make. Any ideas? |

Mortise and Tenon via a router. - 2 replies I suppose THE way to make mortise and tenon is to use a tablesaw tenon jig and a mortising machine, but without that, how about the same thing via a router? It’s easy enough to use a plunge router to make a mortise, but that of course leaves you with an elongated oval. So how to make an elongated oval tenon easily? One thought I just ha... |
