Part 1: Lumber for the Top
One of the hardest things about building anything here is finding nice wood. It seems that if you want anything better than standard construction lumber, you’re up the creek. That’s bizarre in a country that does so much logging and has so much nice exotic wood (I guess it’s mostly exported). At least for a bench, standard construction lumber is just fine. Part 2: Questions About the Top
I have to say, the thought of trying to flatten 16(ish) boards entirely by hand (for the bench top) is a bit daunting. But I lined up the six I have done a cursory planing on, and they look like they mostly line up. Of course, I think they all have a slight bow, but at least they’re all bowing to the same extent.
