Anybody experiencing site browsing problems?

Blog entry by Martin Sojka posted 576 days ago 436 reads 0 times favorited 33 comments Add to Favorites

Obi is reporting frequent problems browsing around the site i.e. Cannot Locate server or page cannot be Found. I’m planning to upgrade server again and perform some fine tuning to get well prepared for the upcoming LJ/PW Challenge.

To be honest I’m slightly surprised to hear about these problems after the recent upgrade this week. But who knows ;)

So if you’re experiencing similar problems report them here please because I need to know where the bottlenecks should be. Don’t forget to mention how frequent the problems are and also mention your ISP if possible because these problems could be related to your ISP as well.

Thanks!

I’ve been having a few slowdown problems, page freezes but figured it had to do with being a Mac and Safari user rather then the site. Am new too so figured maybe it was normal.

Oh, and my provider is cable broadband (that is my ISP isn’t it?) God I feel like such a dork when it comes to this stuff.

I have been experiencing what you described over the last few days – 3?. The first time it happenend I figured that it was everybody clogging up the internet about 8p.m. mountain time. The next couple of times I had pages just freeze up or not able to login. Those incidents were not what I figured were peak hour problems. Total incidents – 4. I am running (supposedly) 1.5 mbps on my internet. It is fast enough to watch videos and tv shows.

I had a couple really slow days but that was before you reported the last upgrade. I haven’t experienced anything since.
(And I have a Mac and use Safari and highspeed)

It takes 30 seconds to??? and then I get either The page cannot be displayed, or Cannot Find Server, and then when I go back if it was during a post sometimes it’s there and sometimes it isnt and sometimes it shows I’ve been there when it never opened up. If it was my service it would be happening to every site i went to, but it’s only happening here.

I didnt realize that the other server was broken.

I was taught long ago, if it isn’t broke, don’t fix it.

Obi it could be also your provider having the problems with the data center our server is in. So the issue can be related. Let me know your ISP if possible please.

And just for your information.. I was not changing or fixing anything.. just upgraded the memory on the current server.

One of the other things that could be causing some of the problem for Obi and others is that they need to clear out there cache in there browser. I know that can create problems for me sometimes when I am viewing the same web page a lot.

yes the last few days, it has been telling me that the page I am asking for cannot be found. Other than that I have had a few slower than usual times to change between different topics on here, and projects.

I’ve had faster load ups on dial-up.

If I copy and save the address to note pad and then copy/paste it to my URL it seems to work, a little better.

I learned something the other day. My PC was downloading like I was on Dial-up, & I have have high speed 3 MBS.

I turned off my modem for minute, & I was back in business. I asked a tech person, & I was told you should do that once in awhile. It’s the same as restarting your PC, it refreshes it.

Obi… my 2cents: if you are having difficulties then chances are someone else is as well. And it would be really sad for a new member to have such difficulties and just never stop by again. We know that you will return because you love us :D
But a newbie doesn’t have that connection – yet. (hahah connection.. no pun intended)

It’s definately your site. Firefox said:

The connection has timed out

The server at lumberjocks.com is taking too long to respond.

  • The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
  • If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer’s network connection.
  • If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

Martin,

It’s the morning of the 20th of March and my browser has crashed from this site 4 times in the last 30 minutes. Plus, unlike any other days, when i click to go to another page I’m seeing some white page with gobbledy gook type on it for a milsecond before getting to the proper page. Is anyone else reporting this or is it on my end? I have’nt done anything differently today from any other day.

Thanks for any help.

How was the site working for you yesterday? For me it was fast and responsive even after the Challenge announcement in the Popular Woodworking newsletter. Hope the same is true for you after moving to new server this Monday.

I was out of town for about 5 days and since I’ve been back IE is working fine now, Firefox doesn’t always show the pictures, but at least it’s responding like it’s supposed to..(well almost)
