I really like the idea of taking something “useless” or “junk” and making it into something wonderful. I think I just might jump into this pool. :)

I’m with pashley…. I have a lot of ‘recycled’ lumber, especially cedar slats (easy to have when you have 400+ ft. of fencing). Let’s see what I can conjur up….

This is not only a good way to use junk laying around your workshop for something useful, but also a nice “going green” project for us all. We all know we should recycle aluminum cans and plastic bottles. Now we can recycle our old furniture, fences, barns and scraps.

Great ideas. I wonder if anybody will make one project that qualifies for both contests. I’m sure somebody will give it a try.

Martin is inlay, marquetry, carving and or stain the only options? I guess my real question would be can intarsia, and/or scrolling be used?

Finding junk won’t be the problem… jump starting my brain to be creative will be the greatest challenge. :)
I bet the LOML will come in handy with the “what” aspect of the project… Great ideas..

Wow, what a timely contest. I am making 4 frames of early 1900’s barnwood! Maybe I will add some of the barbed wire from an autherntic working ranch here in SE Arizona.

Hey Allison and Aubster.. for the serving tray you can use any woodworking technique to finish it. I just updated the last sentence of the description to “Use inlay, marquetry, carving, stains and/or any other woodworking technique to turn your serving tray into a piece of art!”

Funny you should have this. I’m just finishing up a third project with the last of the material leftovers from a home entertainment center I did for a friend 5 years ago! The oak, maple and poplar bits made a 23×18x16 small toy box, a 20×19x14 mounting block for horses just yesterday a 13×9x5 bureau top chest!
