Basement #3: New tools

« Part 2: Floor is poured Part 3 of Basement series Part 4: Workshop »

I bought the ridgid table saw, planner, and jointer @ Home Depot this afternoon. I will put them together tomorrow. I got a delta dust collector from lowes, last week and ordered a cyclone lid from Woodcraft. I am so ready to get started working on some projects I can’t sleep, thats why I am bloging tonight. I would like to set up hoses for my dust collectorl. I am looking at a kit from sears for $130 and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions about it or if it would be better to buy some 4” pipe and the accessories to build my own. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Wow – sounds like you’ve really got the bug. I’m not the one to answer the dust collector question – but wanted to congratulate you on your tool purchases. Can’t wait to see your progress on getting it all together and start making some sawdust!

Hi Paul,

Wow!!!! Congrats on the new tools. I can read the excitement in your post and I am excited for you as well. It always creates an adrenaline rush when we get a new tool.

Have fun.

There are several blogs, both video and written, posted here. You might want to do a search and see if any of them can help.

I picked up my dust collector a couple of weeks ago and the fellow at Wooden Edge recommended buying some flex hose and then trying out different locations of machines for a while before I started establishing fixed pipe runs. Since my shop is in a huge state of flux right now I consider this to be pretty good advice.

Congratulations Paul! You will love those Ridged tools. On the dust collection, keep your run as short as possible. Especially using flex hose. Wood Magazine had a good article about DC’s & CFM’s a couple months ago. I will dig mine out and let you have it.
