« Part 5: carving that I DID NOT MAKE but purchased in China and India Part 6 of travel series Part 7: Middle East and Erope part 1 »

Recently I was in Puebla Mexico on business where I saw a desk that lit up my interest. When I see something that later I plan to incorporate into a project, I have to share it.

Please take a look at these photos and see how cool the legs attach tot he desk. Also, the center is a hollow cavity covered by glass to display some traditional carvings. I like this desk and hope to have time this year to make something similar with my own influences. My intent is to make something even more interesting and less rustic. How a leg meets a top. !http://i258.photobucket.com/albums/hh280/motthunter/128.jpg!!http://i258.photobucket.com/albums/hh280/motthunter/130.jpg!!http://i258.photobucket.com/albums/hh280/motthunter/133.jpg!

You might want to have a look at the Roubo mortise/dovetail benchtop:

Looks like roughly the same joint, minus the laminated front half of the dovetail socket.

ben, thanks for the link. It is similar in many ways. I also saw that the tenon on the table I posted on the inside is rounded. It adds a bit of character. It also will be easier to do the through mortise hole on the desk top using a router as opposed to having to rout out first ant the chisel the opening square.

Nice simple lines, sometimes it’s the simplicity that makes it beautiful.
