Hey Folks,
I’m just screwing around with technology. I’ve just spent a little time setting up the “Lathe Cam.” I’m not sure it will see any action tonight, but it was fun to setup!
I'm going to try and setup a more permanent shop cam for a couple of reasons. I'm in the shop late at night while my wife is doing her paperwork. I've had a couple of accidents in the shop. Just minor, but I have come up the stairs bleeding with my hand wrapped in shop towels. My wife felt that it might be nice to be able to see what I'm doing down there. You know, a baby monitor for the kids...a baby monitor for the husband.
Anyway, a second reason is just to fiddle around with current web technology and to provide some light humor. I'm going to fiddle around with some turning tonight, just making a mess.
Cheers!

I will keep my eyes peeled on the Midnight Mot Monitor. Be careful down there.

What number should we call when we see something going wrong?
By the way, if you left it on all the time we could catch David in the act when he uses CTS to steal – uh borrow your tools.

This could be fun. I’ll have to check it earlier in the day.

It actually works pretty good. It’s finally cooler here this evening, so I’m going to bed. I used a small miniDV video camera for the shop cam that is hooked via firewire to my computer. It seemed to work pretty good. I’m not sure that camera can take the dust though. I might have to rethink it a bit. Just messing around.

John, I had that same thought. Mot you should write your Ph. no. on the back of your smock, really large.

Mot, we’ve talked about the cameras before. Good to see it going, but I missed it. Concerning the dust, I thought about hight quality security cameras. You can buy a switching station to change the view if you have more than one camera. There is even some with remotes. My regular video camera is still going. I did lose audio and can’t figure it out (its at the computer). If you get a chance check out my camera on my Current Projects page

ooh, yeah, multiple cameras! one set on close up to the work, a wider angle of the shop, and one you can sing or talk into…
I was about to let all my magazine subscriptions lapse (or most of them anyhow) and put those funds into the online FWW site… but the way we’re evolving here, I may not have to.
we’re learning and sharing in leaps and bounds… and we’re still just as friendly and encouraging as we were back when we didn’t need a “pulse” to keep up with the posts and comments.
I don’t think you’ll need the security camera to keep David out of the shop with the CTS so much as just keep dibs on who has what ;)
