Well I made it back from the show this past weekend, and the damage wasn’t as bad as I thought. I only went over my budget by a $100,my budget was 200(I hope my wife doesn’t read this). I spent my entire sum at the Lie nielsen booth about ten minutes into the show. I was there for 2 hours. So the last hour and forty minutes wasn’t much fun for me. I went with a buddy or I would have left. But I’m pleased to say that I’m very happy with my newly aquired tools. I have to admit that i’m a label whore. I doubt very much that LN card scrapers are better then anyone elses. But I happen to like this specific company. I will go out on a limb and say there boggs spokeshave is the nicest handling tool I have ever used. Along with those purchases i grabbed a new block plane(this was the impulse buy that put me over) and a tool care kit. Again, I could compile my own for less then what hey sell it for but what the hay. After blowing my money, I did see a lot of things that i probably needed more. But this is a lifetime hobby, there will be plenty of more shows and time to accumulate more stuff.

The Lie-Nielsen scrapers are probably the only L-N thing I’ll ever own in my life. When I got them at Woodcraft (to take a sharpening class), I didn’t know Lie-Nielsen from Craftsman. Umm…now I know!

Lie-Neilson is a dangerous place for me to visit. I dare not mention their name to my other half or she will hide my keys. .............
being stuborn I always believed that a Duziki dovetail saw did a better job of cutting hand dove tails and have debated the concept with Cosman. When I got an “in person” view of the Lie Nelson dove tail saw in Cosmans hands doing doves…................. I retracted my arguement and bought one. .....painful purchase. I also bought the set of chisels and have ZERO regrets. If I never used them even once….still pretty to look at.
I’m worse then a kid in a candy store when it comes to Lie Nelson or Bridge City hand tools.

LN tools may be expensive, but are even more expensive when you buy the lesser brand first and then after you realize that it is not up to the task, you go out and buy the LN. Cut to the chase and buy the LN first. If after a while, you decide you don’t need or want it, put it on ebay and sell it. Think I’m kidding? Go to Ebay yourself and see what used LN sell for. Try to get your money back on any other brand…
Roman… I also have the chisels. The only thing that is better than how they look, is how they pare and trim dovetails!!!

Hi mjlauro.
The show is in my town this weekend, and I’m undecided as to whether I’ll go.
Were the prices on the LN tools reduced at all from their website prices? Were there any other quality hand-tool sellers there? Having never been to a Lee Valley store I’d love to see them at the show.
