Hi All,

Thanks for the warm welcome! I am a new at woodworking and was browsing around the internet trying to find something/anything useful for this hobby of mine. Can’t really remember how I got into LJ’s site. Boy was I thankful! Somehow, you made me feel that I belong. Not that I have the talent, far from it. It is the sense of community present in here. Good Vibes, lots of information and good humor to boot! I think I will be a regular at this site.

This is my first post after signing in. I was basically staying on the sidelines trying to figure out how I am going to fit in or should I even be in here. I am awed by the talent and expertise of all you ‘Jocks. I am just as awed with the willingness of all to help and share that talent and expertise. This is great!

Oscorner, get well soon Buddy!

Mabuhay! I belive your the first LumberJock in the Phillipines. You will have to post some photos of your shop. I’m sure lots of us would be interested in seeing your shop and some of your projects.

Mabuhay Wayne! Am I really the first one? It’s a pity that most woodworker’s here in the Philippines do not have access to a computer. Much less the net. I’d say I am one of the lucky ones. I have invited a friend to join. I don’t know if he did.

Have you been to the Philippines? You’re pretty cool with Tagalog/Pilipino.

As I have posted earlier, I am just about getting my feet wet. I am currently building me a “workshop”. If you can call a 10’ X 10’ X 10’ space a workshop. It is situated between my neighbor’s firewall and one wall of my house. I have already taken pictures of it. Unfortunately, most of the framework was already up and in place before I discovered that there is such a thing as Lumberjocks.com. I was not able to document its progress completely. I will post the pictures as soon as I know how. I work on it Saturdays/Sundays only and holidays if there is one. I still have to earn a living ;-)

For all the newbie’s out there, I know the feeling. You are probably too shy, embarassed even. The talent pool existing in Lumberjock’s is intimidating. I was. Luckily, the guys an gals are cool. I said that these masters of the craft were once beginners too. They too had their booboos once. They too were students once and that they learned from teachers. And that they are willing to share that expertise and knowhow learned all through the years. And that is how I see Lumberjocks.

I will post my very first project/s as soon as I can. How do you call it? A blog?

That’s it for now. Got to work. Mabuhay!

I am glad you came out of your shell. Jump right in, It makes no difference whether you are just starting or you are a veteran. Every one of us is hear to learn and share ideas. The cool thing about you being a beginner is that we will all get to see your progress from the start. Woodworking can be whatever you want it to be: an interest, a job, a pastime, a hobby, a passion, an obsession…

Don’t be shy. Ask lots of questions here at LJ’s, even if you think they sound dumb. They won’t be. And not only will there be someone else wondering the same thing, but there will also be several different opinions. I have only been seriously woodworking for a couple years and I have learned a ton. But LJ’s is unique in that you can ask your peers for help. It is a true source of inspiration.

Welcome.

I used to fly to the Phillipines when I was in the Air Force. It has been quite a while since I have been there. Looking forward to reading your blog. Welcome again.

Just as I thought, Wayne. Clark Air Base? It is now being converted into an international airport/industrial area.

Blake, thanks for the encouragement.

Mabuhay!

Mabuti naman at nakita mo itong lumberjocks. Kailan ka magpo-post ng mga projects mo?
Ano ba magagandang klase kahoy dyan? Alam mo ba yung klase na narra? Dinig ko magandang klase din daw yan. O sige pare, sa uulitin. Magandang araw sa iyo. (pretty good huh?)

Hi Gary,

Very fine grained. Nicely patterned. Merong pula nun at meron ding dilaw. Marami pang ibang uri. Kaya lang nauubos na dahil sa illegal logging.

It’s very nice of you to comment on my profile in Pilipino. I am touched. You called me ‘pare’ so it is all right for me to add you as my Lumberjocks buddy? Buddy is probably the closest to ‘pare’ in meaning and usage.

Have a nice day ‘pre’!
