Christmas is coming

Well it’s 13 days till christmas and I got to thinking that I never gave my wish list to my wife. She repeatedly asked me what I wanted and all I could think of was cash….And I’ll tell why. I wanna buy what I want. I want to go to Woodcraft and buy whatever my little heart desires. I also wanna buy some wood. I have a table saw, small router, miter saw, brad nailer. I know my wife did order me a router bit set, not high quality but a decent starter set to screw up with (LOL). I have a nice work bench.

Here is my dilemma, what else should I get????? I was leaning towards a set of chisels. Maybe a pocket hole kit, or a biscut jointer.

Any I ideas??
Wanna post your christmas list, go right ahead.

I made sure to specify woodcraft gift certificates… contrary to my wife might think, I can’t get everything I need at the local big Blue or Orange Boxes… and I know she’d just as soon not pick out a chuck for my lathe. I even so much as have to ask to NOT get hammers, screwdrivers and any other random (non-fine woodworking) tools.

I”m hoping for some new chisels, and a new tape (I’ve gone through half a dozen this year – Had a Leverlock from Stanley last me years until I accidentally cut the blade, the new ones are breaking or jamming before the actual tape shows any wear… so frustrating).
Some add ons for the lathe, pen kits, etc…, Didn’t ask for, but would love a worksharp system, and more clamps would be nice.
In the past I’ve asked for, and would still like rasps, or floats. I finally broke the microplane I got a kitchen outlet last year – a new one would be nice… or I’ll steal the other one (mine) from the kitchen! It doesn’t get nearly the usage outside the shop!

You need the best gift of all: “permission to buy”.

Other Ideas:
Fine Woodworking subscription

Starret 6” square.

Low Angle Block Plane

First Aid Kit

Marples Chisels

Countersink bits? Vix bits, Forstner Bits?

Clamps

My wish list: Triton 3.5 horse router, Bosch Colt laminate trim router, Veritas Low Angle smoother. Any one but not all. I haven’t been that good.
I asked for a Lee Valley gift certificate.

I swear I will not be using the Detail Master woodburning rig I’m giving my wife for Xmas. She’s the one that can draw anything freehand, and she was hinting around about one sometime ago. Besides I already had my logo made into a custom branding iron years ago.

My wife and I solved our dilemma she lets me pick out what I want so I get something I need not an item that sets in a corner somewhere.

As gizmodyne says, the best gift of all is the “permission to buy”. Whenever the Mrs. forgets herself and says, “Why don’t you head over to Rockler” it’s like Christmas no matter what time of year it is.

Get Clamps!...I am a firm believer in that you can never have enough clamps. Just when I think I have enough, I start a project and end up one or two clamps short. An no, you can’t borrow any of mine, your too far away to get them back anytime soon. By the way, there is a biscut jointer at Mom’s you can have.

A good sander is the next thing I would recommend. Get a good brand, Bosch, Porter-Cable, ect. Stay away from the weekend warrior grade. They don’t do a good job and leave a lot of swirl marks. I have never had any luck with those.

A Drill press. Bench top is fine. You’ll be amazed how useful it turns out to be.

The Rigid Belt/spindle sander. Again, you’ll use it a lot and it gets great reviews.

I’ll stop there. Don’t want to overwhelm you.

BTW….The wife does love me…or she’s been talking to “B” She said, and I quote ” I’m having a hard time picking something for you for Xmas. Why don’t you just get what you want, like one of those Dust “Thingies” This is her discription of a dust collector. We started taking about the different types and the cost. She agreed that it makes no sense to by something undersized and cheap just to have to replace it later, so we decided that I will probably get a 2-3hp cyclone with a wall mount. Now all I have to do is get the shop wired, insulated and drywalled. Oh well, more to do, more to do.
