Pyro Elvis #3: The End

« Part 2: The Middle Part 3 of Pyro Elvis series no next part

Okay, not bad so far. Mostly line work and some shading. The real challenge to this piece I left for last, the cable knit sweater. I probably spent more time studying the picture I had printed than I did actually burning the darn thing. I think it looks really good, but you be the judge.

Step 5

Here is the finished piece. The sweater is done and was the hardest element of the piece to do. Overall, I think it turned out better than I thought it would. All that’s left is to apply a finish. If you want the piece to remain almost the color of the raw wood, I would suggest water based varnish as it does not yellow as much as regular varnish or urethane. It took at least 2 hours of concentrated burning to get the sweater just right. Whew, glad that was over.

That’s it. Pyro Elvis in 5 easy steps. The total burning time was about 6-6.5 hours done over a few evenings. I used a writing pen for the line work, and large shader to do this, that’s it, just the 2 pens. I did finish it with water based varnish and it was given as a Christmas present that was greatly appreciated.

Hope you enjoyed this.

Cheers,
Doug

I love it. I actually have a cousin that looks like him when he looked like he does in this work you did. I haven’t seen him in ages but I bet he still looks a lot like him.

Great work…..looking forward to seeing more. I’m thinking about some scenes that I might do on the paddles I’m planning on making my siblings. You need to blog some of your techniques for us. Beautiful detail.
