I wrote this awhile back and can’t think of a better way to express how I feel about Woodworking or how it makes me feel.
Woodworking is a great hobby and can also be a rewarding profession. Building something beautiful out of wood is very satisfying. It seems the harder the project, the more satisfaction comes from it.
The way the wood comes to life when stain or a clear finish is introduced to the grain; the feeling you get when others are amazed that you built this beautiful object from a pile of plain-looking wood; watching your children playing with or sleeping in something you built: These are some of the things I enjoy most about woodworking.
The journey is in creating something new, without plans or without the complete finished product in mind. Inventing it as I go along, adding this piece, routing that piece; making something with my creativity and when I don't have the tool I might need, having to build jigs or contraptions to hold or mold the wood to how I envision.
When I enter my woodworking domain and start cutting, routing, or sanding, I'm in my own little world and forget about the stressful things I can't change anyway. I build and daydream of the things I hope to build for my family and what my great grandchildren's children will think when they someday play with or sleep in something I made.
That's just one woodworkers point of view.
I also enjoy playing around with website building but am still learning at both woodworking and website building.
