Just a week after Christmas, no one wants to see my workshop. It’s a mess. I have a small shop in my basement, about 12×20 with room given up to the furnace. Two benches, one holding a jointer and miter saw, the other has a belt/disc sander, a Dewalt 788 and a Craftsman scrollsaw and a dril press. A thickness planer, table saw and jigsaw compete for room in front of the furnace. One day, maybe not until I retire, but one day I just have to build something outside.

you would be wrong about people not wanting to see your shop. 1) they want to see it and 2) we (well many of us) love to see that we are not alone in our “creative environment” with piles of stuff, wood, sawdust, and half-finished projects.
Post away! Don’t be afraid :)

Debbie is correct. My shop is never clean. If I were to wait to take pictures until after I cleaned it, then there never would be any pictures..

Debbie is correct. No one cares if it’s dust free and everything’s put away. It’s a workshop , right?

The cleanest my shop has ever been is before I set foot in it and began moving things in. I often wonder about the dust and clutter free shops. They are too picture perfect for my liking.

but they sure would be nice to mess up, don’t you think? You’d be able to find everything.. you’d be able walk around everything without bumping into something… there would be workspace to lay the project pieces out on… yah….
now if only I could find some little elves who would clean up the shop every night.

Hi Joe,
Sorry it has taken me so long to get around to reviewing your workshop post. As you can no doubt tell from the remarks posted above the expectation is toward finding dust and tools scattered in there. I know when I get involved in a project I tend to eventually use every tool (or so it seems) I own and they all end up on the assembly bench. Then to do any assembly I have to push them to the side to generate some workspace.
Visually touring other shops is one of the perks from being a member here. I hope you are able to post some pictures soon.
