I've been playing around with wood for as long as I remember. My father is still, at 75, no slouch with wood so I guess I just followed in his footsteps. I started out making small bits of furniture for my first house then graduated very quickly to building my second house (and I'm still doing something with that 25 yrs later. OH (Other Half, aka Da Missus) gave me a scroll saw for Christmas about 12 years ago and I was hooked right away. I'm not sure if I outgrew the Craftsman saw or wore it out, but OH came through again 2 years ago with the DeWalt 788, a wonderful piece of equipment. I also do a bit of turning, pens and the occasional bowl and anything else that da missus would like to have kicking around the house.
While general wood working provides a great passtime, scrolling is my passion. My biggest problem is getting a good variety of hardwoods. In Newfoundland, we have very few native species, birch being predominate, and the bit of wood that is brought in is rather expensive.
I've been looking around Lumberjocks for the last couple of days and I really like what I see. This group seems to be far ahead of other groups that I've seen. Hopefully I'll content myself to stick around for a while.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I’ve been in and out of a lot of similar sites, yahoo groups, etc over the years, but this site seems to be ALIVE!!!. A real community of woodworkers. I’ve been sawing for over 10 years, I guess, graduated from a Sears Craftsman 20in variable speed scroll saw up to a Delta 788 machine a couple years ago…like going from a Chevy to a Bentley.
