I have been trying to keep you guys, that know xxxxxx xxxxxxx, in the know about his ruptured disc in his neck and ultimate surgery on the 18th. Apparently he did’nt make it. I do know he had some heart problems, and was diabetic, other than that his wife told me nothing other than he had died. I don’t feel comfortable giving out his private email address as he had given that to me some time ago. I guess about all we can do is keep him in our thoughts and prayers. I feel xxxxx was a friend of mine, he was a very spiritual person and wasn’t afraid to let anyone know that. I said a prayer with xxxxx on line before he had surgery and feel lucky to have done so. I know he will be there to pray for me when I need it. God Bless You xxxxx, we’ll miss you. Yours in Christ, Mike.

Mike,
Please pass word on to Mark’s family that we are saddened and made poorer by his passing. Thank you again for keeping us apprised of Mark’s situation, even though the outcome was not as we prayed and hoped would be the case.

Mike -
Thank you so much for keeping us up-to-date as Mark approached his surgery. This has been an incredibly kind gesture for all of us that knew Mark. This was a very difficult message to receive. Mark was truly generous with his support, advice and spirit. I will keep him in my thoughts and prayers. Please pass on our sympathy to his wife and family when you are in contact.

Thank you Mike for letting us know. Mark not only welcomed my participation here when I first came aboard but has supported me and many others here. I have only known Mark here on LJ and will miss his presence. He and his family will be in our prayers.

Mike thank you for letting us know about the passing of our brother Mark. I communicated with him a couple of weeks ago and we exchanged phone numbers. I was going to get in touch with him after the Holidays and we were to get together on my next visit to my son’s house in Baton Rouge. Something will surely be lacking on that next trip.
We have lost a good friend and dedicated craftsman. Go in Peace Mark, and know that you will be missed by many.

The passing of our dear friend Mark Oscorner has prompted me to give some thought to what would happen to the significant tool investment that I have in my shop – should my time come unexpectedly. I’m sure that many of you LumberJocks have significant investments in your tools and your (mine included) wives/husbands have no clue as to the value of the tools in our shops. A friend of mine had a cousin that passed away a few years ago. He had thousands of dollars worth of tools in his shop and upon his passing his wife had no idea what the tools were worth. One of the nice men that she went to church with offered to come by and look at the tools and made her an offer. His offer was $500 for all of them and he was such a friend that he would actually haul them away for her and clean up the empty shop space! She was thrilled to get $500 for all of those dirty old junkie tools.
This makes me realize that I don’t want this to happen to my wife. I will go through my shop and attach a value to each and every tool in my shop and either give her the list or give it to one of my sons – so that when the times comes my wife can get a fair deal on the equipment (unless one of my boys takes them, and that will be fine).
God Bless You Mark.

Mark was one of the first to welcome me to LumberJocks – he made me feel very welcome and I was thrilled to learn that we shared a common faith in Christ.
Death is always a sad event, but less so when one is a believer. He’s in a far better place and must be chuckling to himself at our sadness – “If they only knew”, I can hear him saying, “they would be rejoicing at the my good fortune”. Of course, his dear wife and family will miss him, and to them I pass on my deepest condolences.
We will miss you, buddy, but some day we will talk about those woodworking projects. And I bet Jesus will be in on the conversation – he was a carpenter, so Mark will feel right at home with the big Lumberjock.
God bless.

Mike Thanks for bringing us the news. I have wondered how we could / can support one another to make sure that if anything happens that this community finds out and is able to provide assistance as we are able.
If it’s a buddy system of sorts that we feel we are able to keep in touch with so that we can keep one another aware of family or personal problems.
It would be a shame to just have a name on a bunch of posts to just quite appearing and for no one to know why.
Mike I thanks you for being a friend to Mark and for making us aware of this tragic news.
Mark our prayers are with your family now, may you rest in the great peace that you not been able to have in the last few years. be with the Lord and save your projects that we will be able to share them with you when we arrive home.
God bless you brother. Finish your Chess table with Jesus the great LumberJock.

I’m sure Mark has already starting selecting lumber for his next project from the vast stock of Heaven’s lumber yard. He will be missed, but there is comfort in knowing that he will never again know the pain that plagued him here on Earth. This world has lost one of it’s greatest craftsman, and Lumberjocks has lost one of it’s pioneers who played a major role in shaping this community into what it is today. Lumberjocks will never quite be the same without him, but even though he can no longer leave his positive feedback for us I’m sure he will be reading every post and admiring every project from his PC in the sky.

be thankful for every moment we are here on God’s earth.

Thanks everyone, Mark was my friend, he was a very spiritual person and was glad to share that with everyone. I’ve been trying since the 17th to contact him and that is the last I heard from him. He sounded concerned, but not scared. He was in a terrible amount of pain but was afraid to take the painkillers they gave him, I assured him the were none addictive and to take as many as he needed to stop the pain and to not chase the pain but rather stay ahead of it. He finally listened to my suggestion and got to feeling so good he went back into his shop and started woodworking again, I advised him against that and he assured him he did not need that advice that he could hardly move from doing it. Since the operation on the 18th I’ve sent emails everyday, trying to find out how it went, finally sending a private email to his personal email address. Yesterday I received the email from his wife. It was short with nothing in it other than mentioning her grief and Marks death. Leaving me quite stunned. Thanks for everyones support, I will miss Mark too, he was a good friend, as I said, and allways there with a helpful hint or offering some kind of helpful idea. I will miss Mark. Someone said it best, hes in a better place now, and probably has all the new tools. Dear Lord Please Take Care of My Speacial Friend Mark. Yours in Christ, Mike

Earlier today I added a small black banner in the left corner of my avatar as a token of respect for Mark, his commitment to his craft, his friends and this site. Tom(Mot) decided to borrow it, and I thought it would be the decent thing to provide it to any who might care to have access to it.
For those of you who would care to “fly your flag at half-mast” in memoriam to Mark, I have provided a graphic available for you to use for this purpose available at this folder.
There is a photoshop psd. file and a tiff, both with a transparent background, plus a jpeg with a white background that you can paste your current picture into. Anyone needing help with this please send me an PM.
At least in my own case, I planned on keeping the memorial there through the end of the year.

Mike, God Bless you for doing this for Mark & his family and for the LumberJocks community.
I never met Mark in person but I could tell that Mark is one of those guys that everyone was glad to know. The kind of guy that no one ever spoke negatively about because he was always positive, supportive, and helpful. I could tell that he was genuine & sincere, the “real deal.” This makes the loss of him that much greater. Knowing the type of man he was though, he would be satisfied to know that he was greatly appreciated by all and that everyone cherishes how he served and touched everyone that knew him.
He is the embodiment of my signature line. He truly acheived GREATNESS.
