The inside of my shop totals right at 1000 square feet of space and has a storage attic above. There is also an attached 1 car garage. In January I decided to go a complete makeover of the inside. The shop is divided into two rooms: one 23×25 and the other 19×25. The larger of the two areas will be for my larger equipment and I made the decision to build cabinets across the back wall (this wall is 23 feet long). A miter saw and radial arm saw would be incorporated into the cabinets. Cabinet carcass was made of 3/4 MDF, faceframe is select pine, doors are 1/2 inch sandply banded with cherry hardwood strips. All assembly was done with the kreg pocket hole system. The entire cabinet top is 1 inch thick MDF that will be banded with cherry hardwood.
Started with a 6 foot cabinet.
I then added a two foot cabinet for the chop saw and an eight foot cabinet to the right of the that.
In this picture you can see the three cabinet section that are finished with miter saw in place.
Here is what I have finished to date
I now need to build a 3 foot cabinet for the radial arm saw and a six foot cabinet to finish off the wall. There will be at least one drawer in each cabinet. I like to put doors on all cabinets including those with drawers to keep down the dust. The miter saw and radial arm saw cabinet heights are built so that the tables are level with all the cabinet tops. Will post additional pictures as I move along in this project.

Looking good, I have my chop saw set up the same way, its nice just to be able to slide things on the tops and if need be push them out of the way with out having to pick them up.

This is coming along nicely. You have both form and function in your shop cabinets.
Keep the post coming.

Great setup for the miter saw! How are you going to handle the dust collection for the saw? I’ve read that some leave a big opening in the top surface to catch what the dust collector hook up doesn’t gobble up.

John, I plan on building sealed hood around the miter saw and will attach that to my dust collection system. Will post pictures when done. I have a large pen order that needs to be turned and that is going to put the shop reinvention on hold for awhile. Trying to do all this between projects.
