shop construction project part 1

My workshop over the years has been in the garage, a 12×12 storage shed, the basement and in a closet. When we decided to build our current home (and final move according to my lovely wife) the decision was made to build a separate workshop. The workshop is right at 1000 square feet and has an oversize garage for wood storage. The first task was the foundation for the building.

This was framed up in the middle of June and July when the temps were 100 degrees!

Took 3 weeks to get the entire workshop framed.

Here is the workshop pretty much closed in and ready for vinyl siding.

After electricians and HVAC subs finished it was time for drywall.

Finally complete and ready for grading and installation of gutters and exterior lights.

The workshop finished!!!

The game plan was to get the workshop completed before the house was completely framed up and closed in. This gave us a place to store tools, flooring, fixtures and other equipment during construction. The house has been finished for over a year and I am just now getting the workshop arranged to suit my needs. I will do a separate blog to show the inside of my “dream” workshop.

Very nice, looking forward to growing into a dedicated shop one day myself.

I’m in the process now of builiding out my “2-car garageworkshopshed”... I’ll get some pics of mine up soon.

This is a nice shop. I have always felt that it is better to build a shop facility as opposed to making an existing garage fit. My shop is in a third garage but the layout really does not work well. You have a wonderful opportunity with this shop.

Now that you have a new shop I think that you should get some new tools to go in it. After all you really don’t want to put some old tools into the new space do you?

Thanks for the post. The inside pictures will be nice to see.

If I had a shop like that I would end up almost living in it.
