Pen Turners' Swap #3: One small step for pen turners...

« Part 2: Where in the world is the Pen Trade Box??? Part 3 of Pen Turners' Swap series Part 4: We're going international with this thing... »

The box is on the move again! A short trip this time from Karson to FrankA. Frank received the box yesterday but hasn’t had a chance to go through it – some story about -5 degrees and a dead oil burner. We’ll work with him some on getting his priorities in order before the next trade… :-)

The box is ‘chilling’ in New York right now, here’s where we’ve been so far:

Stay tuned as the drama unfolds and we answer gripping questions like:
… What will FrankA take from the trade box?
..... What will FrankA put IN the trade box
?
....... Will FrankA try to slide icicles in the box as “Ultraclear Aquablanks”???

I’ll trade some NH icicles for NY icicles… I’m overrun with snow and ice (and it’s like 50 degrees out! you don’t even need a coat.

Looks like I’m running outta time to get some pens made!

haha too funny (hmm interesting that the little red line started down in the south where the icicles are few and far between.. )

Loving this journey!

Well the heat is back on and the box has been opened. Kind of like Christmas. There is some great stuff in there.
Will get to what came out and what is going in a moment. Tim I do have my priorities in order, think about it.
I did not want to open a box of pen planks when the indoor temp was hovering around 40f, I really didn’t want to start thinking about the possible BTU output of some of the pen blanks. :)

Any way here is what I removed from the mix.
DSCF2394

I took the pen in the #1 tube.
The Olive wood blank
The Cocobolo Blank
and one each of the blanks from the multi packs as per Karson’s instructions.
Thanks Karson for the great additions for everyone. And here is what’s going back in.
DSCF2396
The cat paw in the corner stays here.

First are two pens, I feel the one I took is nicer thank mine so two should equal one so whoever takes these please take both.
One lacewood blank
One quilted maple Blank
Two bocote blanks
Three Walnut blanks
Two purple heart blanks
Two pecan blanks
and not pictured are a few short mystery wood blanks that I will add if they fit.
I think I have to upgrade the box size as it is.
I hope this meets everyone’s approval. It will be on its way to Scottb
tomorrow afternoon.
This has been so much fun! Thanks Tim

Frank, very good point… especially with the extras from Karson you could have made a decent campfire!

I’m enjoying this a lot, just seeing it make the rounds and what comes and goes – thanks again to everyone for participating.

Well, I am 600 miles from home all this week. I should have time, however, to put together a couple before it gets to me.

Still a few turners ahead of me, but I’m getting anxious about what I’ll put in the box. And who knows, maybe a tree will fall down in my neighborhood in the next few days so I can add a cord of blanks into the box like Karson did.

Nils – we had a storm here in GA a week ago and a tree was downed in my office park. Before I could make it to it the city had carted it away – bummer…

BTW – Did anyone see the LJ eMag this week? Our pen journey made the newsletter! There might be LJ’s watching us now to see what we can do with ourselves…

Let’s try to turn out some top-notch stuff that shows our true appreciation for our craft and showcases our artistic abilities… something like this.

The box has arrived, and has taken over my dining room table. – 5 pens, 5 blanks, 5 kits (mixed with some rabbit DNA):

- thanks for the generosity… we’re nearly in danger of going over the international weight for the box ;)

Now to decide which blanks I wanna play with (what I don’t already have), and which pens to trade (or if I need to make more!)

Sorry, just a heads up – I don’t think I’ll be able to make the Post Office before Wednesday.

Glad you got a selection Scott. We might have to sent this around a half a dozen times to get everything all evened out.

dropping it in the mail tomorrow. The box is all wrapped up and ready to go (and it’s about to burst open!)

I’ll have pictures tomorrow – not kidding when I say our digital camera needs new batteries every time I turn it on. (I think the recyclable batteries have been recharged a few too many times. gotta get a new batch. frustrating!

Wonder what kind of blanks you’ll have come down from Nova Scotia! – I wouldn’t mind if we kept this going around for a few passes – add in some more jocks, more variety, new things from all over the country…

Hey Scott, I was thinking that as well. Maybe we can make it never ending… When it gets back to me we’ll ‘reset’ allow more people in, and get it going. I have a few other thoughts but if anyone from ‘Round 1’ has some suggestions please let me know!

I’ll update the map and start a new entry for Scott’s visit, should have done that already…
