I started woodworking 12 years ago by taking an adult education course at a local junior college in the Chicago suburbs. My woodworking has now reached the stage of a “hobby out of control” -LOL.
My shop started with a 40 year old Craftsman table saw (inheirited from an uncle) and a Porter Cable router. I now have about 300 square feet in my basement shop, and no more room for stationery tools! Because of the limited shop footprint, all my stationary tools are on wheeled bases, and assembly tables (and outfeed tables) are knock down. Big projects can be a challenge.
In addition to teaching myself, have also taken courses at the Marc Adams School of Woodworking (Frankllin, IN) and the Chicago Bauhaus Institute.
My projects generally run to free standing furniture pieces and built in cabinetry, mostly my own designs with occasional projects from Fine Woodworking and Woodsmith thrown into the mix.
My newest challenge wil be to tackle making small boxes.
Skills I still need to learn include turning (don’t yet have a lathe) and marquetry (to add some “wow” to my furniture projects).
