I have been woodworking for about 6 or 7 years after retiring from 30 years in law enforcement. I took a lot of shop classes in highschool and have always been involved in home projects and even helped a friend build his house many years ago. However, only in the last few years have I really had the time to "play". I started out making some unique birdhouses which I intended to give to friends as gifts but soon I was getting orders for them. That was nice but I really just wanted to play and learn more about wood and how to use it. I enjoy looking at the work of others and then trying to see if I can do something similar. Many of the projects I have seen on this site are terrific.
