I am a fairly busy medical examiner for east end of Lake Ontario, Thousand Island and St. Lawrence River. I cover several counties all of which have abundant lake effect snow.Season snow totals average 18 feet.
I have a 15 x 59 shop which great for handling long boards which I chop up into kindling and a small amount into furniture. Local hardwood dealer gets PA. cherry which is gorgeous wood. Darkens into pleasant reddish brown. Also lots of maple both straight grained and curley. The curley is usually not as tight as the boards on the internet. Lots of wide red oak and wide yellow poplaravailable which make great secondary woods.
I like Shaker style furniture with the easier to cut straight lines.
I have a new Martin jointer with a Byrd head (best jointer I ever had, many steps up from 4-inch table top delta planer in 1973) and a Cassedi planerwith spiral knives almost as good in surface quality. My oldest tool is a "circi 1935" Crescent mortiser which weighs half a ton. It does great work but cannot move it around. A Powermatic model 66 table saw and PM 20- inch bandsaw, PM drillpress, PM shaper, delta radial arm saw and finally Oneida Vacuum system. The Oneida was my latest edition as jointer will only work with a vacuum. After saving and and gradually upgrading since 1972, I now have a well equiped shop in my opinion. I will try to get a few pics taken.

Welcome to Lumberjocks. The projects are an inspiration, the information is priceless and the people are supportive. The only problem is, the site can get addictive.
God Bless
