In response to your message to Mark. That kind of dialog is productive. We get vendors who pop into the site and drop advertising into the site in a very non-produtive manner. We have had some spammers selling products that are not really relevent to the users of the site recently. This is where you see our reaction coming from.
If your open to feedback, your first post came across as a copy and paste advertisement. I think asking questions and looking for opinions would be welcomed more widely and you would probably get some good input.
As a community we have a strong interest in safety and safety related products. I have seen quite a few issues related to eye safety on this site including recommendation of eyeware, issues with fungus getting in woodworkers eyes, etc and an alarming number of recent hand injuries from chisels, tablesaws, bandsaws and routers. This is a very important topic.

well said, Wayne. We are always ready to learn—(and Martin, I’m sure, is always looking for paid advertisers). Perhaps this is a venue for both!

Welcome to LJ. If you are interested in woodworking we have a lot of talented people here from a lot of different backgrounds and parts of the world. If you are here to share information that’s great. If you just want to sell something, buy an ad. Martin needs all the help he can get to support all us loafers. If you are a budding woodworker, we’ll help all you need.

I should apologize for my first post. I really am here to learn about the world of woodworking. The company I work for does sell safety eyewear, so I am learning about different industries so I know how to better market to them. I love to research statistics about eye injuries because it gives me a better idea of who really needs safety eyewear. I found this stat the other day and that’s what made me think of joining LumberJocks. “According to the BLS however, they claim that 40% of all eye related injuries tend to happen among the craft workers such as mechanics, carpenters & machinists.”
If anyone has any tips or suggestions on how to approach marketing to this type of work, (obviously not by potsing advertisments like my first post!) I’d love to hear it.

I had a severe eye problem at my last job… I couldn’t see going to work for them any longer.
