My Workshop
- Well, technically it is a garage shop. Work with what yah got right. Main workbench is steel lab cabinets with 1.5” thick plywood/laminate table top. Very heavy and good for general work. I am still working out a concept for assembly table and woodworking bench. Unfortunately the wife does require that the garage be clear of obstructions so that in event of a storm she can pull her car in. Small price to pay for having the garage to myself 99% of the time. Watch out for kid toys and spousal debris. I usually have to purge that stuff before I start working on anything of a large scale.
About me
- Born and raised in California. I moved to Alabama in 2007. Not as much of a culture shock as some might think. I did wood shop, metal shop, and pottery in school but have been out of each since. My woodworking since has consisted of skill saws, reciprocating saws, and general contractor stuff for the most part. I am looking to change that with this rekindled hobby. I am a mechanical engineer by profession.

I have a bunch of power hand tools, not many non powered wood specific hand tools. I won’t bore everyone with the whole list. It is growing in the neanderthal area.
Stanley chisel set, 1/4 to 1-1/2 (might not be the best, but it is better than the plastic handle cheap set)

Couple of Japanese saws, I love my ryoba
Bunch-O clamps. I think current count is something like 14 bessey/jet parallel clamps, a dozen 5/6” C-clamps, 10 F-clamps, 3 wood adjustable jaw clamps, 2 miter clamps, 10-12 Irwin quick clamps, and a bunch of misc clamps of various types/sizes (of course I need more)

THAT work bench with all of the drawers is what I need. If you look up “organized” in the Webster’s you will see a picture of that bench. Thanks for the post.

More updates. Added 2 20amp circuits out to the garage this weekend. The circuit for the main tools is controlled by a master switch (at 6’3” I am the only one in the house who can reach the switch without a ladder). The second circuit is live but all outlets are on the roof.
Some cleaning and organizing, but the weekend events still are running a mess of the place.

Ha, that’s funny John. I remember precisely what is in the drawers, it is which drawer that is the problem. I will eventually label the drawers to make life easier. I have to finish refurbishing them, so far only the 3 black faces have been rustoleum’ed and cleaned up nice.
Woodspar, I can’t take full credit for the TS. I bought it primarily because the previous owner had installed the nicer fence. I did build the mobile base. It had woodcraft casters on it and that didn’t work well with the long rh extension.

Nice shop Doug. I have the same router. I like the Bosch router a lot. I chose not to label my drawers. I know where everything is and this way I avoid having my wife stopping into my shop to grab a screw driver or something—she can’t find anything. My wife then has to ask me. This way I know I am going to get my tool back. :)

Thanks for the video tour of your shop. Tours like this add a nice element to the post. Pictures are fine but video adds a lot of depth and dimension to the tour. I really enjoyed visiting with you.

Cool, glad someone enjoyed tripping over kid toys to make it through the tour. I will do it one day when I have stuff purged, but usually in that instance I am up to my elbows actually working.
Updated the tablesaw photo. Just added a small outfeed table, dropped it about 3”, added levelers, and reinforced it. I was a bit bothered by the wiggle with just the brakes on and also by the height that my base added to the saw. So I tore into it today, totally revamped the base and added an outfeed that is about the same as how far the motor hangs out.
Also, new video posted. Not a great video, but it is unscripted and I do all my own stunts…
