Thank You and Welcome

Hello All,

First of all, I want to thank everyone that has extended such a warm welcome to me. I can already tell that this community will be a great place to discuss a very well loved hobby. If everyone is as friendly and helpful as the people who have welcomed me, I plan to visit quite often.

Now a little about myself. I’m a novice woodworker, who has done a lot of research (books, magazines, tv shows) but not much actual woodworking. Its not that I don’t want to do the work, its just that I lived in a townhouse for a while with absolutely no room for a workshop. We recently moved to a duplex that offers a little more room, but still not enough to set up a workshop. We are in the process of getting our driveway expanded, so once that is done, I may be able to take over the garage (if my wife lets me).

I’m a Mechanical Engineer and the lead CAD designer for a government contractor. I use SolidWorks on a daily basis, and have it installed on my home computer. Making designs for woodworking projects is a great way to keep my work skills sharp. In addition, being able to pre-design all of my projects in 3-D lets me know that all of my measurements are correct. I’m pretty willing to help others with drawings, so feel free to ask.

Well, thats about it for now.

Dave

Thanks Dave for the welcome. Good luck on getting the garage. If your wife is anything like mine I can honestly tell you that I would be out in the weather before her truck is. But we tend to make do with what we are given.

I am looking forward to seeing some of your projects.

Solidworks is a great program. It’s all they used in my last job.

I love looking at a good drawing as much as a finish project, it would be fun to see some of your drawings. Have you seen the recent contest on the book shelf design, might be right up you alley.
