Thorsen House #2: The details are a little rustic

« Part 1: Summer of 74 Part 2 of Thorsen House series no next part

The photos aren’t the best, but here is my update on the Greene and Greene table. Yes I went rustic. I got thinking (think…think…think) and I became interested in translating some of the details to a rustic style. I have a very old cheap band saw so I’ve not done much re-sawing. I’ve never done a breadboard end.

Notice I book matched the top. I’m using pine from an old corral and a few pine branches from my firewood pile for the legs. The pegs are well dried out willow branches. I’ve planned the pine for the top and half planned for the bottom shelf. I wanted a transition from the raw weather to the smooth finished wood. It doesnt show much in the photo but, I did a cloud lift, then a cloud pull, just to add a little touch. I did change the design on the aprons. Making them narrower and without the cutouts. It makes the table appear taller and more delicate.

Apply the finish and I’ll be done and ready to post.

It’s looking really good. Will you be keeping it or selling it and if you are keeping it where will you be using it?

Dennis, nice going.
All this time you’ve been laying in the weeds, ready to pounce.
You pounced way ahead of me.

Nice job Dennis. It will be neat to see it finished.

Okay, here’s the second time today I’ve had to retract my “I’m not generally much on rustic furniture” statement.

Love those shaped bottom shelf supports!

Thanks everyone! Diane, this might be sold, but it is real hard to sell small tables. Especially if you have any time in them. It is just to easy to go get one for $20.00 somewhere. I built one for a charity auction. A small round table pine/alder turned on my lathe, the auctionner put a lamp on it and sold both for $15.00.
Dan, some of the most uncomfortable chairs in the world are rustic. Some of the cheapist POC’s are rustic. I can understand your viewpoint.
Pat, only if you do a woodburning on it and send it back to me on my birthday in May!

Dennis, nice added touch with the Dowels. It’s a winner in my book.

That’s a very interesting design and look, Dennis. MsDebbieP has some competition in the rustic arena, now.

Dennis, that is a great table.

When you have pine like that I know why you use it. Super job.

Terrific as always Dennis. You are a master with rustic wood. Step back a few feet for a pic and let us see the whole table please (or is this just a teaser?).

Why am I not suprised that Deb would like, it has willow in it. : ) Great Job Dennis. Love the rustic style. Makes me think of a cabin up in the mountains, near a stream filled with fish and the freash clean air.

Hi Dennis;
—-this is great!!!
....and I like what you said about the transition from “raw weather to the smooth finished wood”. The planed top, and then you filter down into half planed on the bottom, great ideas here and great vision.
Thank you for sharing….and great looking pine legs!
GODSPEED,
Frank
