Shaper issues #1: Making crown molding with a shaper
After installing my new Amana 962 Crown Molding Shaper Cutter in my new Shop Fox 2 hp shaper, I was pretty fired up about making some saw dust and beautiful crown. After trying several different hold down techniques I could not get a single piece...

I just joined the site today, I guess because I am in need of some more professional advice than my own. This year I started filling my garage with woodworking tools. Boy is my wife glad, now I can build her things you can’t buy at the store. Anyway I purchased a 2 hp shop fox shaper. Yesterday after completing my first set of kitchen cabinets for my brother I attempted to run an Amana 962 Crown Molding cutter on my shaper. I had no suceess, I could not manually and with one featherboard get the crown to come out perfectly. After ruining 5 or 6 boards I decided to not make crown until I come up with a better solution. I have looked at power feeders. Is that the best option? What size would be adequate for my shaper? Does the power feeder have to be positioned vertically, and do they make powerfeeders that go vertically? As you can see I have alot of questions, and I need some help. I talked to a couple of other woodworkers and they suggested molding machines or purchasing the crown. I have a shaper cutter, and I want to use it, I just need some advice on how to set up my equipment. Any help would be appreciated.

I have a 3hp shaper and have not had to run crown yet. When you start running large bits it is hard to hold and feed the wood consistently compared to a router. Lee Jersberger would be a good guy to consult as Karson suggested.
Anyway, Welcome to LJ! You came to a great open source community of people withdiverse knowledge and the willingness to share.
I am looking forward to your projects.
