A Few Progress Photos on a Walnut/Maple Walking Cane with Scrimshaw

Blog entry by Mark DeCou posted 124 days ago 237 reads 0 times favorited 10 comments Add to Favorites

This is a walking cane that I am building for a woman in Conneticut.

These photos are meant to show her my progress, and check the conformity with her ideas of what she wanted.

Specifications:

The wood is black walnut

The handle is Curly Ambrosia Maple, stained “red mahogany.”

The Inlay is Synthetic Ivory, and will get a Scrimshaw picture of the customer’s pet dog, “Cassie.”

The bottom tip will be a lathe turned and polished yellow brass tip, with a replaceable rubber end.

There is no finish applied at this point.

Total Height, 33”.

Carried in the left hand.

Progress Photos:

I had some trouble with getting the camera to give me an accurate color photo this morning, so lots of photos here to look at it.
