I am a self-taught pyrographic artist living in Ohio. I have worked in
various mediums for most of my life. However, I am currently enjoying Pyrography-the art of burning on wood and other mediums. I have been burning on wood for the past 4 years and recently I have started to burn on leather and paper. My work has been shown at woodcarving shows, art shows, and craft shows and I have won many awards. I even presented one of my works to noted entertainer Wayne Newton.
I have a huge love for animals and nature. I specialize in wildlife, pet portraits, and flowers. However, my art is not limited to these fields alone. I am now enjoying doing portraits of people.
I do commissioned work, and I am willing to accommodate customers regarding their requests. Each piece can be uniquely colored or done in monochrome and is signed and dated by me. Let me create you a lasting treasure!
In my galleries you will find pyrography done on a variety of basswood shapes. Basswood is my wood of choice, because it is a soft and almost grain-free wood, which allows me to experiment with various approaches to woodburning for creating my pieces of pyrographic art.
I am a proud member of the I.A.P.A. the (International Association of Pyrographic Artists). Also member of National Wood Carvers Association.
Thank you and regards,
Danette

Hi Karsen!
Thanks for the welcome. I’ve been very busy woodburning for several shows coming up. I’m not able to share photos of my works just yet until I’m done competing with them in the Fall. I can share some from past competitions. Hope you are well and keeping busy. Take care…Dangee

Hello Danette
I am going to purchase an optima 1 wodburner. I have made the deal to get three pens. My interest is in burning wood and making 2d patterns of animals. My question to you is what three pen tips do you suggest I select.
Thanks, Scott

Hi Scott!
Here are the three pen tips P-18- Medium Spear Shader; P-19s- 1/16” Ball Tip; this is great for signing your name and doing pupils, etc. ; Medium Skew either straight or rounded…I learned on the rounded.
Where or who did you order from?

Hello Danette
I purchased the burner and spent last night burning wood. I now know enough about burning to know how little I know. Do you have an opinion on a book that you feel is good for a beginner. I have read the reviews from several on Barnes and Nobles website but it is difficult to make a decision when knowing so little.
I hope I am not making myself a pest, Scott

Hi Scott!
Sorry it took me so long to reply…It’s hard to say which book is better…Cheryl Dow has some great books for beginners titled Woodburning with Cheryl Dow, as well as Sue Walters book titled Pyrography Workbook, Sue also has kits on her website that give step by step instructions with ton of photos to show you how to do it, and then there is Lora Irish…The Great Book of Woodburning…she does a great job on explaining shading.
You are never a pest Scott…I’m here to help anyone who asks for it.
So how do you like your new burner???? “Keep burning and learning”....Danette
