Anyone have a Steel City 35910/35910 - 5 replies

I’m in the market for something with a riving knife, was looking at the Grizzly G0651 then I came across this Steel City one that looks to fit the bill. Anyone have/used one that they could comment on. The Grizzly is about $400 more because the riving knife only comes on their tricked out version, and the Powermatic/Sawstop are beyond my m...

Do you need to joint prior to using a wide belt sander - 8 replies

I’m thinking of having my workbench top (currently under construction) run through a wide belt sander to flatten it. One thing I don’t get is how this works. I picture it as big planer but with sandpaper instead of blades, but on a planer you need to have the opposite face jointed otherwise you just end up with parallel but not flat....

Results of using a glue line rip blade outside of its cutting depth limits - 8 replies

So I’m looking at getting a new blade my table saw and was looking at the glue line rip blades, it states that it’s designed for cutting stock 1/8” to 1” thick. My question is what kind of results would you get in thicknesses greater than 1”? Awful? Passable?

Clamping out the cup/bow of a board? - 7 replies

So I’m in the process of gluing all the pieces of the top for my workbench, and some of the ripped pieces have subsequently developed some bow. I don’t want to just joint them flat because I’d lose so much stock so is it feasible to just get the faces smooth and then clamp the bow out of it as I glue it up? What would be the be...

tenons table saw vs band saw? - 19 replies

How do folk like to cut their tenons ? For my bench I’m thinking of doing the tenons on the bandsaw, while Chris Schwarz does his with a dado blade on the table saw. What are the pros and cons to these two methods? I have a dado blade but because the threads on my arbor aren’t flat the cutters lie at slightly different heights so ...

Thinking of buying a workbench. Any recommendations? - 27 replies

Now I know I ‘should’ just man up and build one but I’d rather spend my limited shop time building furniture so does anyone have any recommendations with regards buying a workbench. At this point I’m eyeing the Grizzly H8110 Thoughts ?

Where would I learn about Puzzle Boxes? - 20 replies

So I was poking around looking at coffee table designs when I found this cool puzzle table. Does anyone know of a good resource for learning about secret compartments/puzzles and what not as related to woodworking. My Googling didn’t turn up much but figured someone here would know. Thanks, Damian
