I’m currently crammed into half of a 2 car garage and a boat shed of recycled timber, mainly Rimu. The workshop will over the next year move up to Murchison, New Zealand, close to the location of our 100Ha ( 250 acres ) of forest property. A purpose built shop will eventually be built made of adobe brick and NZ red beech timber rafters along with a solar kiln to process my own self-milled windthrow NZ Red and Silver Beech.
I currently own the basic power tools, having picked up bits and pieces over the years and some parts of the collection still to be updated :)
Beaver/Delta 10” Contractor’s 1hp table saw (with a sharp blade and some care in setup of a very persnickety fence, perfectly serviceable but I still dream of that Unisaw – which is not available in NZ)
Holytec 8” jointer
Delta 12” portable planer
Home built router table ( from Woodsmith plans) using a 3hp Dewalt router
Delta 14” drill press
Tauco ( foreignly sold Delta ) 14” bandsaw ( about 1940 model – see pic )
Ryobi 8” radial arm saw
Custom built professional wood lathe ( from about 1960’s – recent acquisition )
and a whack of hand tools

Hi Steve,
Any chance that we can get some updated photos of your shop?

Hi Scott,
Thanks for your interest. I happened to have a few pics I took during my last project which I’ve uploaded.
When I say I am crammed, I mean crammed but I’ve put the table saw and the planer on wheels. I’ve also built a scrap wood and handtool stand on wheels which can be tucked away when not in use and moved around when access required. You can see that in the last photo, to the left of the drill press. I used offcuts of some recycled plastic carpet tubing to make some rings that I use for storing long narrow pieces. It has shelves on one side and has bins for storing long flat stock on the other side. The central upright panel is a torsion box for strength and lightness.

Hi Steve,
Thanks for the update. Making your tools mobile is a great way of utilizing shop space. And that is a nice wood storage idea with the plastic tubing. Going vertical like this also effectively uses shop space.
You have a nice shop and some nice tools to work with.
I have enjoyed the shop tour.
