I have been building furniture for a living for over 30 yrs now and I am a hard head and do everything the old school way having studied with Wendell Castle when I was fortunate to be there when Steven Proctor was the head instructor.Steven was and still is the most knowledgeable woodworker I have ever had the pleasure of meeting or knowing. Some are better at certain things but I don't believe their's many with his total knowledge or skills.
Of couse I can't say anything without acknowledging Wendell he was and still is a great inspiration to me.Not that even I like his current work that much, but I can assure you it is fantastic quality. He was and still is the only person I have ever been around who was concerned with how he will stack up in history and hoping for way up there.I am not going to comment on how I think that will work out but let me tell you a person who is not interested in being the best in N.Y.,nor,even the US but someone aiming to be the best in the world of all time. Those standards are very hard to live up to but it has served me well for a very long time.

Not that my standards are there I still find myself searching for knowledge, striving for knowledge, still trying to push the envelope. It's my experience that many people take on a self professed title of "master" and even now after doing this so long and having some sucesses I am very embarrassed when anyone calls me that.
Maybe in another 30 years.
My work is always solid wood, hand cut dovetails, solid wood drawer bottoms, lots of curves ,almost never a hard edge, natural finishes and way too much work for the money I get but is truly my passion and love
I really look forward to learning from others here and seeing the wonderful work produced by so many

Hi
Guess I have been slow to “dive in”here but will get more active in time.It seems like a very nice site and a pretty good reference place to find out info.I have been building contemopary studio type pieces for over 30 yrs now and still am absolutely amazed at how little I seem to know compared to how much there is to know.
I’ll get some pictures downloaded in a few days or really someone will to it for me as I am much better in a woodshop than with a computer

Nice work, Cowboy. Like the design. I was afraid with a handle like “Cowboy” you might have longhorn legs and horseshoe pulls on your furniture. That’s what they like down here in Texas. I’m just waiting to get the order for the Morris chair with a “hair on hide” cushion.

Welcome to Lumberjocks. The projects are an inspiration, the information is priceless and the people are supportive. The only problem is, the site can get addictive.

God Bless
