Thickness Sander - opinions?

Blog entry by brunob posted 134 days ago 199 reads 0 times favorited 5 comments Add to Favorites

Anybody have any experiences with Grizzly’s G0458 18” 1-1/2 HP Single-Phase Open End Drum Sander? I’m looking to buy a thickness sander and am unsure of which to get. These are on special now for about $850.

I do not own one of these but have ordered one and am awaiting delivery. I have other Grizzly machines in my shop and have never had any problems. In my experience, they actually deliver quality and performance for the price. Other opinions may differ, of course. I mean, for $850, how can you go wrong? Go for it, I did. bbqKing

For 100 bucks more you can get the Delta, which I own and know is a good machine. Not knocking Grizzly, I have a couple of their machines. I’ve just never seen a tool report on this sander.

Whatever brand you get you will wonder how you ever did without it.
I don’t think that I have not used it on anything I have made since I got it.

Well, I don’t have any experience with that sander, but I do with the dual headed drum sander and a couple of other tools. My personal experience with Grizzly has been very positive. One of the best things for me is how good the customer service is. I always can talk to someone knowledgeable and I can get parts fast. That is important since I use my tools to make money.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and comments. I’m going to get one in the next couple of days. Just can’t quite decide on which one.
