I am a 44 year old land survey intern. I am in the process of buying a "new" home and am looking forward to finally being able to create some things for the house. I was forced to give up my woodworking for awhile when the kids came around, but now that they are older, Dad is condemned to his workshop. Darn IT!

I have tried a few projects usually out of cedar. I was raised in the Pacific Northwest, and to me there is no finer smell than that of cedar. I hope that I can tackle my first project within the first couple months after we get moved. I have already decided to use cedar for that. This will most likely be a type of barrier for my office in the basement. I do a lot of CAD work for a local real estate developer in town, and need some privacy while I work!!

My hope is to scout for some simple ideas for the house. As I get better I will tackle some harder projects, but for now I need some time to redevelop.

Thanks for stopping by!

Thank you Sir! I am buying a new home, well, sort of new anyway, and I remember I used to love creating something from a pile of wood. Only one problem. I have limited tools, so before I took any more steps, I thought I would join up and let some ideas float by while we move. Thank you!

Thank you Scott! I did notice Gary’s signature statement. Reminds me of another famous line. If at first you do not succeed, use a bigger hammer!

Goodness – Thanks guys! My wife and I have been poring over some of the projects posted, and we have at least three fairly simple ideas we could start with for the new house. Thank you for making me feel welcome!

Welcome Boomer. You have found the right place for woodworking. A great group of people willing to help. How large will your office be? Will your workshop also be in the basement? Show us some photo’s. We like photo’s. Have fun and work safe in the shop.

I am not moved into the house yet so I cannot get exact dimensions, but right now the plan is to close on the house next week, and then take about half of the rec room as my CAD drafting office. I ecpest it will be about 14×17, and my current plan is to use utility shelf units and build a cedar wall on one side of those shelves. Sorry no pictures yet. I need to move in. Thats next weekend so stay tuned. After the wall is built, I would like to tackle a work bench. The price of drafting tables is way too high, and I think I can build one for about $150.
