My shop tour 2007 #1: My shop tour

no previous part Part 1 of My shop tour 2007 series no next part

I have to start by telling you that The “shop” is an offspring of our maintenance area in our warehouse.
We need an area to stage and repair all manner of wear and tear for 8 bathrooms , 8 furnaces, drains ,tile , rugs, painting, baseboards doors etc to keep our 10,000 sq ft warehouse up to snuff.
The basics where there and all I needed was an excuse to add this or that rather than hire the job out. By the way, up here you cannot get trades people so a lot is left on the building owners lap. We have an oil field group that pays truck drivers $1000.00 per day to drive rig trucks so goodbye trades people.

Back to my story.
I tried this year to get a foundation poured in my backyard for a shop of my own but could not get concrete until next spring.
The mess you are about to revue is a bunch of tools huddled near electrical outlets waiting to be set into a shop layout.
I just hope Ms. Debbie will cut me some slack her and give me a temporary pass.

This shot is of the north end of the space (20×25 feet)

You can see the end of my bench and the overhead rack I use for my small hand clamps. Beyond this the 1/2 hp drill press with built in/on cabinet to house most of the bits I use . Next to it the Delta lathe and on the other side buried today in cauls the radial arm saw ( My dado machine)

On the other facing area you see my miter sawstation with after market laser attachment.
Seems to work just great so far.

Here’s a better shot of the lathe and showing my router table with the Lee Valley tope inserted in the top .

This is my “moble crash cart” housing all my turning tools, my wood chisels and my vaccum pump for the lathe and veneeering.

Down on the main flooor I have clustered my 18” bandsaw, my tablesaw, my lunch box planer, my metal bandsaw and two 1 hp dust collectors to deal with the chunks while I use a shop vac for the fine stuff.

Good show, old bean! I’m sure Debbie will be her usual kindly self. We’ll be back in a week or two.

Bob:

The cyclone what is it sitting on. It doesn’t look like a high enough area to catch many chips.

Functional shop.

Thanks fellas.
It’s a mess but it’s mine!
Karson, the cyclone is sitting on a stand and the base of standi s a box on wheels about 24×24 x 30.
I seems to work just fine. I emptied in on friday and there is still only about 1/2 lb of fines in the bottom of the bag after two years (15-2o dumps)

I’ve failed to empty the container under my cyclone while planing and ended up with lower and upper bag full of chips. Along with the metal trash can that I use to collect the chips.
