Working wood for over 50 yrs., doing projects of all varieties from clocks and tables to spoons and vases. These past years I have found that making rocking chairs gives me the most pleasure and that is all I do now just rocking chairs to my wife’s chagrin.
The icon picture is of my Flagship rocking chair with molded glass made in my kiln and inset into the Headrest. Accents of Ivory, burled Mesquite and curly Bastogne walnut are used with the Claro walnut body.
The blog picture showes part of a new style rocker, I call the ‘Hawaiian Classic”, made using genuine Hawaiian curly flame Koa. The Backslats are shaped to represent leafs and the whole rocker has a more organic style.

Your welcome Bill. Good luck in Utah. I hope the move lives up to your expectations. I’ll think about making a chair one of these days.

PanamaJack, I am glad too.
Wayne, the move took more energy than I though it would. Organizing my shop is taking more time than I thought. I love the area so all in all thing are good.
I am anxious to start making rockers again. I also have students coming for lessons so this year is a busy one.
Thanks to all you Lumberjocks for asking.

gorgeous rockers—and the glass… WOW.
I have 3 antique rockers in my basement waiting to be fixed… and waiting, and waiting, and waiting. I can’t even tackle “fixing” let alone building one from scratch.
Amazing creations.

I have been busy with two moves this last year as well as making custom work. After 45 years in one place I now live in Utah, it is great. This is the first time to live in the snow, I am learning a lot about the stuff.
If any of you woodworkers want FREE instructions on how to build a custom rocker similar to the SM style go to my web site at www.kappelusa.com. Click on the left side of the opening page and choose a code # to email me. I will send over 40 page of free info with all the good stuff like pictures, jigs, shop secrets etc. The code # alerts me to serious woodworking subjects not just junk mail.
