Ok, so I have completed my last two projects – an entry bench and a wall bed. I posted the pictures to my website.
My next project is an artist stand. I have a picture and the wood. Next step, start cutting.
At the same time, I am working on some smaller items I can offer as well. I have some great plans and instructions, but my results have been less than spectacular at the moment. But, today is a new day and I can achieve some new results.
I plan to focus the smaller items on prices less than $50 and see where that goes. Now if I can just get the costs down to that level…

Hi Bill
I’d like to show you a bargain I bought at a school surplus sale about 30 years ago. I paid $5.00 for it. It’s a keuffel & Esser Cast iron Drwaing Stand, about 1920 vintage. I just had to screw a drawing board to it. The only thing missing on it is the gear, & wheel for the Rack & pinion raising mechanism.

I have a similar problem, Bill. But mine is even more exaggerated – I give my stuff away and I just can’t find raw material to make this viable. LOL

Nothing wrong with trying to find a reasonably priced market. I had a moderately successful art show a few (ok several) years back, sold mostly photos and prints. Because I was part of a group show – 30 fine artists selling mostly $100+ things, I figured that if people were coming out to this show, (expecting, but ultimately not finding your typical “craft fair”) they’d probably want to go home with something, and would have a couple bucks to drop. (Being right around Thanksgiving didn’t hurt) I tried to have as many cheaper items as possible. Had good success with magnets and cards selling for a few bucks. The cards were hard, nearly a loss-leader, because they cost so much to make – compared to what I had to sell them for, but overall the few pricier things I sold did balance out to make the day profitable. The bummer is that this show only lasted two years, and I have a bunch of extra cards, magnets and prints kicking around… At least I’ll have zero overhead going into a future craft show, If I decide to do that again.
Don, Perhaps you could make your boxes out of whatever wood people give you :)
