I took over half of our basement for my woodshop. It is about 18’x58’. On one end I have my desks and books, mini sportsbar, refrigerator, etc. There is a $1700.00 treadmill my wife bought for exercise. It has not been used in months. I cannot speak of moving it upon pain of I know not what. It works good for hanging lacquer thinner soaked towels to dry, though. My free standing workbench is a Sam Maloof style that I adapted from The Workbench by Taunton Press. It measures 8’x38”. I have a 9’ ceiling (to bottom of trusses), so I can stand a 6’6”
hall tree on my bench. My workhorses are a Ridgid TS3650 contractors saw, a Ridgid jointer, Jet mortiser, and a Grizzly drill press. I actually need to upgrade my mortiser and planer (benchtop Ryobi), but I am waiting for them to fail. The planer will probably go first because it was not designed for the abuse, but I don’t think the Jet will fail, it is just under powered. I think the Ridgid saw is one of the best I have seen as an underpowered saw, and earns its keep till I can bring myself to buy a full bore cabinet saw. The boat doors on the end of my shop open to a back drive and onto the pond, so it is handy for bringing in lumber and loading out finished pieces. Any input on upgraded planers and mortisers is appreciated. Here are some photos.

You have a very nice shop with plenty of room it looks like. And I even saw some sawdust on the floor around the jointer.
thanks for the post.

Hey Gary tell me about it. I bought a $900.00 powerwasher last summer, washed my vehicles so they shined on Saturday, and the water restrictions came on Monday. It is in my garage gaining value like a big dog. You Know what I mean. Thanks everyone for the remarks. I am very new to this and I think it’s great. Al

Wow, nice big shop with lots of room. Nice tools, if you ever get to painting the walls it will go from good to great, really liven the place up. I did that with my garage shop (painted the walls white) and it made a huge difference. i have the same table saw and love it. Bob
