On May 13, 2008 I ordered a Delta Mortiser through maxtool.com. Well, it is now June 17, 2008 and I’m paying interest on the purchase and the mortiser is on back order. No one at Max Tool or Delta have an idea when they will be able to deliver. Let me say that again. No one at Max Tool or Delta have an idea when they will be able to deliver.
This would have been my first purchase of a Delta tool. I know that several of my fellow Lumberjocks have Delta machines and are happy with them. But when I run into a problem like this with any company, it tells pretty much all I need to know about how they do business. They took my money and can’t deliver the product. I can cancel the order for a full refund, but neither company has agreed to pay the interest accumulated on the purchase since they grabbed the money.
The Max Tool site didn’t indicate that they couldn’t get the product delivered. The Delta site doesn’t or didn’t indicate that it was a back order product.
I don’t know what is going on with Delta, or for that matter Max Tool, but I, for one, will be doing business elsewhere in the future.

It’s pretty-poor form to charge your credit card before they ship the item or at least have it in stock.

I’m surprised as well that they charged you before shipping … that’s seems a tad unfair. Hopefully, they’ll be able to ship it soon because I have a Delta benchtop mortiser and absolutely love it.

I would talk with your credit card company…I suspect they may have a bit more clout dealing with vendors who deal shabbily with their cardholders. Be firm but reasonable with the credit card company and you may be amazed what can result. I’ve had pretty good success asking the credit card company to support me when a vendor tried to pull a fast one.

Bummer. I agree that you should not have been charged prior to shipping. By the way did you look at Amazon.com? They may offer free shipping on this item.

Run, while there ie still time.
Get a full refund from the store and if that is not instantly possible contact your card vendor to reverse the charge.
I am talkin in minutes here.

After comparing Delta vs. Jet, I bought the Jet – and am glad that I did! Delta quality seems to have gone way down lately.

A tool vender that I deal with carried Delta as their main supplier for as long as I can remember.
When I called them recently about a Delta product, they informed me that they stopped dealing in Delta products since Black and Decker took over. They could not get reliable product supply.
Mind you they never charged my card before shipping.

Thanks Guys, I am going to take your advise and cancel. I’ll have to see what the card company will do about interest charges. Just make a mental note about Max Too at maxtool.com. Their website didn’t look like a fly-by-night company but evidently they do business that way.

If this is true. maxtool.com is not good place to do business. I will not use this site.

You should definitely not be charged for something on backorder.

Sounds like Max Tool is your problem, not Delta.
