I retired from the banking biz about six months ago and headed for my shop to pursue what I have found to be a passion, if not an obsession. I told my children as they were growing up to make sure that whatever they decided to pursue to make sure of two things, one, have a passion for whatever you're doing and two, make sure you learn to do something. I, like a lot of people I know, found out those two rules long after I was so vested in something that I was neither passionate about and found that when I got home at night, there was nothing tangible to look at and say, "I did that." My woodworking, such as it is at this point, has become my passion and when I get done with a day in the shop, I have something, good or bad, to look at, touch, fuss with, improve, or, in some cases, send to the scrap pile. But, I don't think I have ever left the shop without learning something new.
Right now my projects are basically, things that I have found in magazines or online and fairly simple. But I am looking forward to learning design and techniques that will allow me to put my own mark on my projects.
I am looking forward to communicating with and learning from all the "Jocks' out there. It is amazing to find this number of like-minded folks who are all interested in doing better work.
The picture I have included in my profile is of me working in the kitchen of our cottage in Ludington, MI. The clock I'm working on is from Wood Magazine, I believe. So far, I've made three of them and they are probably going to end up in the homes of family as gifts. I have done some furniture, cutting boards, built-in cabinets, picture frames, etc. I look forward to posting them and getting the reaction of other "Jocks."

Thanks for the comments on Grizzly. I was going to order a few things from them but I think I’ll continue my research.

Welcome to Lumberjocks. The projects are an inspiration, the information is priceless and the people are supportive. The only problem is, the site can get addictive.

God Bless
