My workshop isnt your typical woodworking shop since my family owns a planer mill/millwork shop. I basically have all the normal tools found in a woodshop but on a much bigger scale. For starters my planer is a 24” Cantek double sided surfacer with helical heads with a maximum opening of 8”. My version of a table saw is a Mereen-Johnson 312 Gang saw, it has a 12” capacity and rips with glue line accuracy. Instead of a router table, i have a Weinig Unimat moulder which i make all my trims on. The one piece that i do most of my woodwork after hrs on is my lathe, which i dont no who made it or when, all i know is that its big, heavy and old but it sure gets the job done. I have a Doucet clamp carrier with hold down that i do all my glueing on which is hydralically driven to ensure perfect glue lines. I have several miter saws but most of my mitering is done on a 12” compound sliding Dewalt. For big sanding jobs i have a 36” Cemco Belt sander to do the brunt of the sanding up to 120 grit, then it is up to numerouse palm sanders/sanding blocks to take over. I use Paslode nailers, Senco Staplers for my faster driving. For lumber, I have alot in stock at all times, or have contacts where i can get pretty much anything imaginable.

Hi Barlow,

Pictures would be wonderful, if you can. You are basically living the dream of most hobbiest woodworkers, who tool focus is usually on upgrading to a more powerful, versatile and productive tool.

Thanks for the shop description.

Hello to a fellow Upper. I’m originally from Escanaba, been in the Detroit area longer than you’ve been around. I still get to the U.P. a couple times a year. I have a brother in Mqt, and a family cottage about 18 miles south of Munising.

You have some very nice looking lathe work in your gallery! Your very fortunate having the big equipment .

The next time I get over to the Norway area I’ll look you up.

Barlow,

I don’t think I would know what to do in a shop like this. I would simply be lost. You are right in that this isn’t a typical woodworking shop. You have some interesting tools in there to work with. And I love the lumber stack. Wow.

Barlow, this has been an interesting and eye opening tour. I would love to work in a facility like this surrounded by these tools and the lumber. Thanks for sharing. I really appreciate this shop post.
