Nice work. Did you have any experience with DC ducting that didn’t have copper wire in it? I was just wondering if you noticed any difference in static build up. Nice vid!

No Tom, no other DC experience at all – but a lot of static in my workshop and elsewhere – especially during winter. Saw it was an issue and just did it. I have seen elsewhere on the web that people put in static control then removed it because of the increased resistence, so I don’t know how much of an issue it really is, but better safe than sorry and I have plenty of suction.
Note that I found it hard to find bare braided copper – Lowes didn’t have it at all; BORG did, but I had to find it myself, the “experts” working the electrical section had no idea. It was really cheap too – especially compared to a “kit” from Grizzly or Rockler.

I used pvc pipe for my DC install, but, I didn’t put the copper wire on the inside; I wrapped it on the outside of the pvc; just spiralled it, and it works great that way. I have never gotten a static shock off of it, winter or summer.

Enjoyed the video JC and thanks – the timing is perfect, I have been trying to figure out how I want to redo the DC piping in my shop. I thing the PVC may be the best way to go, now that I’ve seen it in action.

I have PVC run through my shop and have No problems with static at all. I don’t think the copper wire run on the inside is necessary. Any static build-up in the PVC will actually be discharged on the OUTSIDE of the piping anyway. A simple screw in the side of the pipe connected to a ground should be sufficient piece of mind. Also, Tape all joints intead of glueing. You WILL need to change your set-up eventually.

After having this setup for about a half a year now, most of it has worked out well. The only thing I am not happy with is the small “shopvac” port in the front, it just does not get the suction I had hoped for, even when the other route is gated. Good luck and please post your progress/results.
