« Part 3: Making Dust on Project X Part 4 of Woodworking Awards 2008 - 2x4 series Part 5: One Word - Pictures »

I did not get out to the shop last night . . . rough day at work drained the good right out of me. I did get out tonight to work on dovetails.

Well . . . I did better than I expected. Now I’m not saying I going to win any awards for my dovetail joinery, but the four pieces of the top did fit together.

On my practice run I found that the Irwin Dovetail saw I had purchased was just to rough on the spruce. So I put it away. I found the best saw was my Stanley Japanese pull saw . . . unfortunately it was a bit “wobbly” and upon close inspection it shows in the finished project. But I still happy with the joints as my first attempt.

My chisels could have been a smidge sharper as it was a challenge to chop out the remaining bits after using the coping saw.

I gotta get myself a striking knife as well . . . I was using a mechanical pencil and had to cut inside the lines.

Its all a learning experience.

Pics . . . well . . . the batteries went dead in the camera and we could not find the spares. Honest I tell you.

Sorry Jamie . . . no pics tonight.

I have 9 more dovetails to cut – 4 for the bottom and another 6 for the Project X Twin.

That’s Okay Zuki. Sounds like you had a productive evening. I didn’t get much of anything done yesterday myself. Don’t you just hate it when work interferes with woodworking!

Today was toy making. it was a good day. only 46 more weeks until we deliver them again. 1200 toys to go.

What can I say about your project. Not much so I’ll talk about my day.

…work drained the good right out of me.” Boy don’t I know that feeling. Ain’t it a kick in the head that work gets in the way of the good stuff?

Good luck on the dovetails. Someday I’ll be confident enough to try them on something I post. And, someday you’ll even have pictures … check your batteries, I did, and it was worth the effort. ;-)

-- If at first you don't succeed, try again. Then quit. No use being a darn fool about it.

it’s all about the challenge and it sounds like you are meeting yours head on and are pleased with the results. Can life get any better??
(Yes, i know, if that new bandsaw was sitting in your shop)
