My shop has a name, Zipiland. I started about ten years ago as a 10×10 area next to the washing machine. The rest of the basement, 20×20, was completely finished with a drop ceiling and carpet and a sofa, TV, and games for my three kids, including a Ping Pong table. As the kids grew and their need for play space diminished, my need for a play area got more intense. One day, after building a night table, I decided that I needed more space to build the bed. I evicted the kids (teenagers by then); rip the carpet from the floor and funded Zipiland. Since then the shop got improved in several ways, starting with a Vac system and a few months ago it culminated with my new Grizzly saw. A few years ago I build a Shed in the back yard to put all the implements that I had in the garage, and this area became wood storage and rough cutting area. I bought some used machines (circular saw, a band saw, a radial arm saw) and installed them in the garage.
The last ten years had been a great ride. I build more than a hundred projects, and the improvement is visible. But I notice that as I improve in building and designing new furniture I improve myself. The ride is just now beginning…let it rip

Zipiland is JUST my kind of amusement park! Nice reclaim of space!

I can’t tell that this was once a family area
Love the name of your work area. Do you have to be “so high” before you can enter???

Great looking workshop Zipsss. How deep is you storage area for your tools that are in the plastic boxes like your nail gun.

The storage area also serves as a cover for the gas meter, it is about 2 feet deep.

Yeah, I second the motion that Deb tours your shop, if for no other reason than I would get to say “We going to Zipiland” BTW I really like your work – Salt&Pepper is a favorite.

Zipsss,
You have a nice shop and it had some nice toys in it as well . I like the way you are using your overhead space for storage. That is an area that is often overlooked. I also like seeing some sawdust on the floor. It makes the shop looks like some activity is going on in there.
Thanks for the post.
