no previous part Part 1 of Wood Wisdom-Video Blog series Part 2: Shop Tour- New and Improved »

Here is the first episode of Wood Wisdom (I say fifth because of the other videos but as you can see the title says #1 because of the new name). It is on Jigs that I have made for my shop and hopefully you can make some of these for your shop. If you have any questions message or comment me. Thanks.

Hope you enjoyed. Thanks

Tyler

Tyler, young man….......,,,, YOU are amazing. Just watched your film. I’d rather watch you than Norm any day!! As a matter of fact, you should consider contacting PBS about the possibility of a woodworking show. You’d be great. Keep up the good work. And keep those films coming. I need all the help I can get.

I agree with JR. Your videos give me alot of knowledge. Thanks for adding the spline cutting jig. It was a big help as I have never seen one. or how it works. I look forward to building something and adding a spline. Keep the vids coming. By the way when will you be touring, I would like to catch a show. :)

Tyler,
This was the first video of yours that I’ve watched and I think you did a great job! I liked your cross-cut sled and the safety features you incorporated into the sled to prevent accidents. Keep up the good work and I look forward to more episodes.

Fantastic work. Wish I had your skills and tools at your age, perhaps my career path might have been different (not to say I don’t enjoy what I am doing ;). )

Thought I would share with you and others that a great resource I found for a wide range of jigs and fixtures is the Taunton Press Jigs and Fixtures Text which can be found at Amazon.

Also, Tyler, I don’t know what it would cost so I don’t know if it would be in your budget, but I think the audio on your videos would benefit if you had a body mic, such as the type you might clip on your shirt or something. The audio level is impossible to keep consistent as you find yourself different distances away from the camera mic. The next step toward that PBS gig.

Tyler that was a great video. I think you are well on your way to giving Marc and Norm a run for their money. Just one thought though – it seemed like your table saw jigs were rubbing a bit from the sound of it. You may want to try a bit of wax to smooth out the movement.

I think your spline jig was the best. You obviously take a lot of time and have a great eye for detail.

I’m looking forward to your next installment.

I like the new name :)

Great video – congrats on the new T-shirt. Awesome!

I like how you share all the tips behind the jigs -the safety features and the “why’s”.

I do have a question. What do you use a featherboard for? And/or how do you use a featherboard.

This young man is outstanding. Sure wish I had the pleasure to have had him enrolled in one of my classes back when I was teaching. He is an exemplary role model for young folks working with any kind of tools. Your presentation skills are great too! Keep up the awesome work Tyler.

tyler, great video ‘specially ‘cause i was about ready to throw out my craftsman saw…have the exact same saw, and was really having trouble cutting things square… your miter sled will help greatly. i have found that the gullet plate of that saw is way too flexible, my 78 year old neighbor suggested that i glue a strip of wood along the bottom of the underside of the plate. (away from the blade of course). use a two part epoxy- it works great! (use as thick a strip as you can.)

all the best,

jw

Kudos Tyler, You have a great future if not in woodworking then it will be in TV documentaries or News – You are developing great skills not only in woodworking but in public speaking and camera presence. Keep it up buddy!

Your parents should be quite proud.
