My one car garage shop is approximately 10’X20’. The whole area is dedicated to woodworking accept for one corner that is used to store all of my wifes gardening things. She recently put a freezer out there as well. The nerve! I wouldn’t say my shop is complete, but how many of us can? It seems like its an ever evolving process of jigs, fixtures, and rearranging the work flow.
The shop is centered around a my Grizzly 1023 Cabinet Saw. I built an work bench on the outfeed side of it. I altered a benchtop craftsman router table to replace a table saw wing. The Rikon 14” Bandsaw and a generic dust collector are the other larger machines. I’ve gone benchtop on all others so far. The photos should give a decent idea of how I make it work. Here’s a rundown of them:
Photo 1: Shows Grizzly 1023 TS with easy shut off, mounted Router wing, and an outfeed workbench.
Photo 2: You can see a combo sander aligned with the miter saw’s fecnce. Below the miter saw is a flip top cart on casters that houses a Delta Planer.
Photo 3: A Rikon 14” Delux3 BS with extension table built around it. There is a laminate router mounted into the extension on the rear. My Generic Dust Collector is hooked to the Rikon and Grizzly via blast gates. You get a small glimpse of some lumber storage as well as a scroll saw/grinder stand. The cabinet is explained in photo 6.
Photo 4: Lumber storage and drill press mobile stand. Also some gardening and yard stuff stashed there.
Photo 5: Wide shot of the cabinet storage. These are recycled kitchen cabinets from my parents house.
Photo 6: I simply love this cabinet. I’m in and out of it more than anything else. On the front (photo 2), I keep all of my marking and layout items as well as some chisels. This photo shows the interior. There is storage on each side of the 2 doors. You can see the bit storage in this shot as well as the bins for hardware. Not seen is numerous handtools hung on the other doors. Below is a little cubby for battery chargers and a pencil sharpener. Each side is able to mount 3 pipe clamps via steel posts. Above it is the shop clock and more lumber racks.

Where is your miter saw? Dedicated station?
How do you like that Delta benchtop planer. I keep thinking about it.
I have the Delta 9” bandsaw, it is really nice, it is probably one of my favorite tools.
Have you thought about getting a jointer? I don’t have one; I cannot decide whether to get a benchtop one. or to splurge and get a stationary one

Will do. I’ll try and take a few pics today. It would be nice to have a before and after picture. My miter saw is built into the counter top. I recessed a section of it so that the miter’s top is flush with the counter top. I dock a shop vac under the miter saw which collects the dust the miter saw kicks back into a funnel I rigged.
I like the Delta Planer. I don’t know the model # off hand. I got it at Lowes last year. It was in the ballpark of $210-$230. My only gripe with benchtop planers is they are harder to eliminate snipe as the rollers lock differrently than a floor model in most cases. I try and feed similar stock in first and follow it immediately with the good board. The blades are cheap to replace as well.
I do like the 9# Delta Bandsaw. I have my eyes on a JET 16” and Grizzly’s new beefed up 14”. I have had great results with both JET and Grizzly.
I almost bought the benchtop Delta jointer that Lowe’s carries, but held back after hearing people bash it on the forums. The consensus is that the fence is flimsy and needs a lot of tuning. I’ve gotten away with using my router and tablesaw to joint so far, but its on my wishlist. I want the bandsaw and a decent dust collector first.

Sounds like a good start Jeff. Like everyone said, time for some pictures.
I bought the Ridgid stationary jointer and like it a lot. It does not take much room, maybe 4 ft length and 18 inches width. It is 6 1/2 inches wide, so you can not plane very wide boards. A planer is on my list, among other things.
How do you like your Delta planer?

Thanks Bill. Pics coming soon. I just finished a project and need to get everything back in place. It’s tough to photograph a tool that has rags, hardware, and other tools burying it! I like the planer. See my comment above for my review of it. It is the only planer I have ever used, so I can’t say that my review should carry much weight.

I just now got around to looking at your shop post. The pictures are a little small to see any details. You sound as if you have a nice shop from your description and you definately have a nice set of tools.

Thanks Scott, I haven’t looked at this section in a while. Yeah, the pictures are awful. I’ll add some full size shots when I get back from a quick trip I’m on. They are a bit dated as well. I’ve been on an organizing spree of late. It is still a bit of a mess as I’ve got a lot of things in piles while I debate on where they should reside.
