Hello Tony;
I must say that your work is very good; and if I’m understanding you right, then what you do is all completed by bandsaw and hand tools.

I am interested in Japanese wood joinery and it seems as if your name has led me to a gentleman by the name of Kintaro YAZAWA, who travelled to Britian to study under Edward Barnsley.

I am very interested in the character and work of Kintaro YAZAWA, and then from his site I also noted that he links to you as one who introduced his work of joinery to Australian woodworkers. I have also noticed that at: www.forums.woodnet.net/ubbthreads/printthread.php?Cat=&Board=UBB8&main=2718398&type=thread

you give credit to him and then also you have placed the photo on your website homepage.

What can you tell me about Kintaro YAZAWA and his joinery techniques and how did you or maybe better yet; have you also an insight into Japanese wood joinery?

Any information would be appreciated and I thank you.
Frank

Frank

Occasionally I have the privilege to talk with Master Kintaro (via email).

Like you I highly regard his work, it is inspiring.

I can’t tell you anything about his joints as he has decline to share that information. Late last year he had a German craftsman working in his workshop, just how much information was divulged then I don’t know.

I am sorry I can’t be more helpful.

Kind Regards
Tony Ward

I love your work. If I ever get to Australia, I may come spy on your shop to learn your secrets.
