Hello All ! Just a brief description of my shop:
I have a 24×32 shop with a 12×12 garage area. The main shop is divided up into four different work areas. One area is 12×12 prep, assembly and spray area. Another area is set up for final assembly and table work. The final two areas are set up for sanding and vise work. I have a great mixture of Bostitch Nailers and Staplers, Ridgid, Delta and Grizzly tools.
I use my 12×12 garage area for metal/welding work, nuts and bolts storage, grinding/wire brush work. I also have a 75,000 btu ceiling mounted forced air furnace and a new Grizzly 2 HP cyclone dust collector (just put it in on 8/17/07). I am just ducting it today, have to wait for more money for pipe! I haven’t run any of the pipe to the tools yet, waiting on hoses and blast gates.
Behind my table saw I wanted a large 8×8 out feed table. I used two sheets of melamine for this because I wanted a large flat, slippery area to rotate article to finish. I also needed to have somewhere to store my hardwoods (pic 3). I have them all stacked in separate rows underneath the table. They fit perfect and most of the stacks are hidden (but accessible) behind the planer stand and the table saw. Next to the table saw and planer is a large 3×5 down draft table I made from left over plywood and the squirrel cage of my old oil burning furnace that burnt up. That baby has 3 motor speeds! I only use the lowest speed though. It’ll suck the copper off the Statue of Liberty!
I am a recycler by nature and every bench, table and stand in the shop I made from material I got from tearing down our front porch when we moved our house…that’s another story. You might notice my wheeled planer stand is an old hutch (junky walmart garbage) my wife wanted to toss. TOSS NOTHING I SAY! My 6 year old son is using the hutch top I cut off for his little work station. You have to let your kids be involved, but keep them at a safe location. He got his first black thumb nail the other day from a hammer, made me cry with pride, but he was crying from pain of course.
I have built, added to and remodeled homes as side jobs for most all my life, but God has blessed me (with my wife’s permission of course) with a working area that I can begin detailed furniture work instead of banging on 2×4’s and OSB. I enjoyed the work, but want the details of furniture work. I can’t wait to get started!
I look forward to finding out information from you guys on this site, as well as seeing layouts and ideas from others here. I have a ton of stuff that I would love to share as well, just need to figure the site out.
Thanks for the forum!

Thanks for the photo Todd. My wife thinks I’m crazy as well. She says I have “virtual’ friends…..

You do have virtual friends Wayne C…especially if those are your brown eyes and that white striped face with your tongue hanging out, check out my sleek brown coat as I lounge around on the flowers!

Great looking shop. I have a tiny space in comparison. Nice layout and planning.
I missed this when you first posted it.

Hi Todd,
I am getting around to the posts that I have missed and glad that this one came up on my list. You have a wonderful shop and I like the way you separate the finishing area from the working/construction area of the shop. Your outfeed table is well thought out as well. I have a similar setup but I only used one sheet of melamine. Using two is a better idea. I guarantee you that is a solid work surface.
Thanks for sharing.

I would be curious to hear how the dust collector works after you fire it up. I am still thinking about buying the same model.
