Class started 1 month ago so i’ve decided this will be my first project. Let me correct myself. My wife has deemed this my first project. I’ve decided to go with Ash for the construction. There will be a few modification to the design on this buffet just because i’m me.I’ll send progress pics as i progress. I have class on Tuesday and Thursdays so this my take a while. This is also the first time i’ve had anyone teach me the proper technique when working with wood.

Pretty nice for a first project. Hope it goes well. I’m interested to see the design changes you make. Keep posting.

This is a nice project and you have a wonderful opportunity to participate in a formal woodworking course. I am sure that you will learn a great deal from both this course and the construction of this hutch. Enjoy and have fun.

It is amazing how much you learn by taking formal classes. I am completing my second quarter in a full time college program. Keep at your off to nice start.

Wow. My first attempt at “woodworking” was nothing as ambitious as this. With the teachers to guide you though, I’m sure you’ll do well. Keep posting the progress and remember two things – a picture is worth a thousand words, and, more pictures is better than less pictures. I’m sure you understand the first thing. The second thing is what I always have to tell my wife – quit trying to capture the perfect picture and take a hundred shots and surely one or two will be good. In your case, post all one hundred and we’ll enjoy them all.
Good luck,
-- Jim

That is very exciting as a first project, but don’t be daunted by it. You will have lots of support from your instructor and here at LJ.
I love ash. I think it has an under appreciated beauty and the cost is quite reasonable. It has has an increased sanding time because it is quite hard, but it mills nicely and handles similar to oak.
